The usher tore our ticket stubs,
and the four of us headed up the stairs to the second floor.
The theater got quieter the higher we went,
the muffled chatter from the lobby fading behind us.
Wow, has it been a while since I've watched a movie in the theatre.
The last time I can remember, I watched "Ghostbusters" with Jack and Andy.
And that was only because we snuck in.
Daniel led the way, carrying the popcorn in one hand
and his Root Beer in the other.
I followed behind him with my Cherry Coke,
Jack and Cathy trailing after us.
When we reached our row, I blinked.
Front row. Like, really front row.
Daniel stepped into the row first, then I squeezed in after him,
followed by Jack and Cathy.
I sat down and looked up at the giant screen looming over us.
We were sat in the middle row.
Huh, these were pretty good seats.
I thought.
"Wow, Jack."
I said, pursing my lip out, nodding.
"You actually got good seats."
"Oh no need to thank me, I know."
Jack called from the other side of me, all cocky and what not.
I roll my eyes and turn my head to Daniel who took a sip
of his Root Beer and nodded in agreement.
"Yeah, you're right. These are pretty great."
Suddenly he lights dimmed a little more, and on the screen it was that shot of the soda cup getting thrown into the trashcan with some dramatic effects and music to begin
showing the previews, and soon enough, they began.

The first trailer flashed onto the screen.
Beverly Hills Cop.
Eddie Murphy grinned while chaos exploded behind him.
Daniel immediately leaned closer.
"Okay, that looks awesome."
"It does,"
I admitted.
"I'd watch that instead of this movie."
Jack added, almost whispering making Daniel and I laugh quietly.
"You're lucky Cathy can't hear you."
I whisper to him.
"She definitely can,"
Cathy called a seat down from us.
"And I stand by what I said,"
Jack says, getting comfier in his seat, doing that lame move on Cathy,
draping his arm over her seat. I peak over to see the blonde girl roll her eyes
and simply lean in closer to my best friend.
Kinda hard to believe that the last time I was in these seats, we were watching with his brother.
Now we were watching with Cathy!
And Daniel was here too!
Fucking crazy...
The next preview started.
Dune.
Sand dunes stretched across the screen.
Daniel frowned.
"Why does everybody look so serious?"
"I think that's the point, LaRusso."
"If I have to think that hard during a movie, I'm out."
"Shocking."
Then came Starman.
Daniel tilted his head.
The screens light glowing on his face.
I was surprised to see Daniel reacting this way.
Considering I've never actually watched a movie with him in theaters.
But I wasn't complaining.
If I had to add, and keep to myself.
It was kind of cute, really...
"Okay... now I'm interested again."
"You like aliens?"
"I like movies where stuff explodes and aliens show up."
"Very specific taste."
"Thank you."
A couple more trailers rolled by an action movie,
and then something involving a talking dog
that made the entire audience collectively groan.
Daniel shook his head.
"That looked terrible."
It was like he was a movie critic.
Non-stop blabbering on what looked good or
how they should've changed this instead of that.
I laughed and shook my head at the boy,
"You're reviewing previews now?"
"Somebody has to."
I took a sip of my Cherry Coke, trying not to laugh.
After another trailer ended, Daniel looked over at me.
"Wait."
"What?"
"How come Sixteen Candles is only showing here now?
Didn't it come out months ago?"
"Yeah, back in May,"
I said.
"But this part of the state gets movies later sometimes."
He frowned.
"Seriously?"
"Yeah. The production reels and tapes take forever to get sent around.
Big theaters get them first, then places like Reseda get them later."
"So we're basically watching a delayed movie?"
"Pretty much."
"Great,"
He said.
"We're living in the past."
I shrug my shoulder, crossing my legs for a more comfortable position.
"OH! Speaking of the past, you hear about that
movie coming out next year with Eric Stoltz?"
"The one with the future?"
"Yeah, yeah!"
Daniel almost looking like he was gonna stand up from his seat.
"Man, do I wanna watch that as soon as it comes out."
He says, relaxing back into the chair, smiling.
"That is if Reseda gets it in time?"
He looked down at himself, sighing.
"Ughhh, you're right."
I smiled into my drink.
