One chilly Wednesday afternoon,
after our last period.
Jack somehow convinced me to walk m
ALL THE WAY to the other side of the building.
The Senior High Department.
He said we were going to ask Andy for some "good relationship advice,"
which sounded ridiculous even as he said it.
Seriously?
Andy?
Out of all people?
Sure he was maybe the only
Senior high school we knew that wouldn't
beat us up...
Maybe.
But his dating life isn't exactly the best, considering the amount of girls
that surround him daily.
He's probably dated half the girls in his section,..
I remember looking at my best frien
like he'd lost his mind.
" Jack, this is stupid. "
I muttered as we crossed the courtyard.
" Why am I even doing this?
Why did I let you drag me into this? "
He just grinned, hands shoved in his pockets, acting like he knew something I didn't.
" Because you need help.
Some serious MAJOR help.
And Andy's basically a love expert.
Trust me. I know. "
He placed his hand over his chest like he was speaking from "experience".
Love expert my ass!
I scoffed.
"A love expert? Andy?
The same Andy who thought writing
'Call me ;)' on a girl's locker was romantic? "
He shrugged,
" He's older. That counts for something, "
Pausing, turning around to look at me and stop.
" And the babes dig it! "
He thrusts his hips, proud of his brother's so called "love expertise".
" Don't ever do that again. "
" What!? It's true! "
Remind me again? Why don't you have a girlfriend again? "
I ask obviously, only to get backfired.
" Uh, I do. Cassie Sinclair?
We're going on a date soon actually. "
He spins, all happy.
" Oh, fuck you. "
I accept in defeat, flipping him off while we continued to walk.
He laughs as I sighed,
tugging on the straps of my backpack.
The wind bit at my cheeks,
and I couldn't tell if the chill running through me was from the cold, or the thought of
what we were about to do.
I didn't want to talk about Daniel.
Especially not with Andy.
The idea alone made my stomach do cartwheels.
Not in a good way.
Andy was like a brother to me,
which made this ten times worse.
As we rounded the corner of the field, I asked,
" Are you sure Andy's gonna be here? "
Jack rolled his eyes.
" Yes, I'm sure. He's always at the bleachers during free period. "
" Trust me."
" You keep saying that... "
" Because you should! "
We slipped through the fence
and crossed the grass.
The air smelled faintly of smoke
and fresh-cut field.
When I looked up, there he was.
From a far, Andy, lounging on the bleachers
like he owned the place.
Leather jacket, white shirt,
shades pushed up on his head.
The guy looked like he was one of the boys from
the movie Grease or The Outsiders...
I mean he looked just like Rob Lowe,
which was crazy.
It was as if he had just walked
right out of the film...
And sure enough, the rest of his friends,
all dressed the same was with him.
As we made our way closer to him,
trudging up the stairs to their sides
on the bleachers.
He and his friends were laughing,
tossing around jokes I couldn't quite catch.
Then I noticed the cigarette in his hand.
Andy smokes now?
" Wow, didn't know he smoked? "
I muttered under my breath, whispering to Jack.
" I didn't either...
Maybe he'd in this rebel phase? "
He whispers back, the both of us
shrugging our shoulders
The second Andy spotted us,
his whole demeanor changed.
H is eyes widened like he'd just seen a ghost.
He quickly stubbed out the cigarette on his shoe and tossed it somewhere behind the bleachers, pretending like we hadn't just caught him
red-handed.
He squinted down at us, brow furrowing.
" What do you want this time, wimp? "
He called out to Jack, clearly not thrilled to see his little brother showing up uninvited.
His friends looking at Jack and I as if were
a bunch of losers about to do a survey
on some nerdy shit.
It was kinda uncomfortable...
" Hey kid. "
He cocked his head up, greeting me.
Before I could stop him,
Jack tugged on my sleeve and pulled me closer
to the bleachers.
" Nothing! It's okay, Andy. "
I said quickly, trying to sound casual.
" Jack's just- he's overreacting.
We're- We're gonna go now."
I chuckle awkwardly as I try to pull my best friend along with me.
But Jack wasn't having it.
" No, no, no, we're not. "
He said, tightening his grip onto my backpack.
" She needs advice. Real advice.
She's in some serious shit right here, Andy. "
Little much of an exaggeration, Jack?
Oh no.
Andy looked at him, confused but amused,
one eyebrow highly raised.
" Serious, huh? "
His younger brother nodded dramatically.
" Yeah! Like... Emotional soap opera serious. "
I wanted to say something.
To object, or even disagree with whatever the hell Jack was talking about.
But no, nothing. Nothing came outta me!
Andy groaned.
" This better not be about school. "
" It's not. "
Jack said, shaking his head.
" It's about Y/n liking- . "
I couldn't speak, but oh did my hands move fast to cover his mouth.
I wanted the ground to open up and swallow me whole.
" Jack, please don't- "
