I wake up the next morning and go to the kitchen. I keep expecting Sandy to be there in her casual clothes, brushing away or cooking or just doing something but now all I walk into is a dull, dark kitchen.

No smells of breakfast cooking. No one to have my chat with. The days have gone by slow.

It's the day of the trial and Poppy must have chosen wisely to stay asleep last night with the tense mood everyone was in and rightly I don't blame her for it. Amelia was up all night last night worrying about the trial and the fact that she has to face him again. But I said that I'd be with her, she still didn't sleep. She's laying in having an lie in after finally slipping into the world of dreams or nightmares for her, at around 4' o clock this morning.

I on the other hand has had very little sleep and my mind is all over the place and so is my emotions. I don't know what it is but I've been feeling ill lately and I don't feel that great today actually but I made an effort today atleast and that's why Amelia looks so awake from her sleepy state when she sees me this morning.

"Why so nice?" She asks me sitting on the kitchen island that stands between us.

"Because I'm going to a certain thing that you couldn't go to alone" I tell her and she smiles up at me and tucks into her breakfast.

The car journey was quiet on the way here as no one really wanted to bring it up as Amelia had a melt down before we left and so it was a very tense atmosphere.

She watches the men and women in suits walking past with brief cases and clipboards with small notes written on cases of abuse, assault, robbery anything they can get their hands on to show who's the best Lawyer. I would know my father was one and if he saw me in that jail a while ago he would have blown his top and probably gotten me in even more trouble. My mother always said that 'he was a rich, arrogant man who couldn't separate his work life from his family life'.

I knew him as a lawyer and a man who slept in the same bed as my mother but never as my father, he was never around long enough for me to see him as a father. I was only 5 at the time when he left and my mother kept a brave face but I could tell money was starting to become tight. My father would leave a sum of money for us but after a while it went down and down until he stopped paying it at all. She had a string of other relationships and she became pregnant with Johanna with the last one, when I was 10. (I'm not very good at maths. So sorry if this adds up wrong. Anna is 18 currently by this point in the story nearly 19 and Johanna is 8 currently. It should be 10 years between them but you get it.)

Until we get to the state Mat found me in with my mother in a spiral of depression and my sister depending on me for every little thing. Oh and me working a job that paid very little.

I look back to Amelia and then to Mat with a sleeping Poppy in his arms, I asked him to hold her today as I need to be solely with Amelia when she's going through with this.

The Court ruled in favour of Amelia and even though her mums boyfriend, who's name is John, pleaded not guilty the court found him guilty of assault and 1st degree murder of Amelia's mother. Oh and did I mention he was also jailed for previous offenses which I may read to you. He was charged for life for the murder of Amelia's mother, 16 years for Assault on Amelia's mother, 3 other sexual assaults to a 25 year old women, a 30 year old women and a 16 year old girl. He got 14 years for that and then adding on to the already large list of his offenses you can add on charges for 1 theft and 2 robberies and this all comes with no chance of parole and no bail.

We all breathed a sigh of relief as Amelia came running to me as the court jumped to their feet with happiness that this monster was being put away for ever.
