Was she really caring this boy into his own camp? Wasn't she the one who had been chased for the past two miles? Shouldn't she be the one getting a king's escort into the tunnel? No, she was stuck, once again, picking up everybody else's slack and dragging this boy forward. Once he regained his footing (and ripped the spike from is shoulder) he began to run alongside her. They ran into the ever changing light of the Caldecott tunnel and Reyna could almost see the green of the Berkeley hills and the gold of the camp starting to light up as the sun set below the horizon. Was it really night already? She wasn't paying attention to the ground underneath her and her toe snagged on a root poking up from the ground. Really?! Out of all the places a tree could grow its roots it had to be the Caldecott tunnel?! Still burning with annoyance she fell to the ground, and if that wasn't painful and embarrassing enough a final volley from the Manticore left her with a spike lodged in the back of her right calf. She was good at blocking out pain and the poison from the spikes but this was just to much and just steps from the safety of the camp Reyna's world disappeared.
