Jason found that standing in front of his cohort never got any easier. It certainly didn't help that he was only fourteen and younger than most of the members of the Fifth. It certainly didn't help that the fifth was the most disgraced cohort in the legion, and it certainly didn't help that while all the other cohorts stood at attention ready for battle his was scattered in a mass panic.
The fields of mars glowed by the fire light, this was where they would clash. Jason knew of the monster force gathering at the base of mount Tam just across the bay. Jason knew that they were being led by the titan Atlas. An Original Greek tale but unfortunately he was known by the romans as well. These monsters liked to occasionally they would have little skirmishes by the edge of the docks but that was nothing Terminus and the Border Patrol couldn't handle. Sometimes they would sneak into the city and capture fauns and all sorts of weapons it would be better for them not to have. This was not the best time for Jason's cohort to be in shambles.
Gwen was trying to gain their attention by bellowing commands but that didn't seem to make much of a difference. Jason was getting so aggravated he could feel the electricity in the sky. Sam, a daughter of Victoria was on the ground shaking. Lance, a son of mars was chasing around a poor faun trying to get him to take his armor and switch places. Finally Jason's strength broke when Dakota ran up to him, his mouth stained red, and yelled "We're going to die man! We're all going to die!" Jason looked around at his pathetic cohort and out of sheer frustration he electrocuted himself.
Clouds had formed overhead and a giant bolt of pure energy fell down and struck Jason, conducted through his helmet. The sound alone pierced the crowd as all the other demigods turned in the direction of the fifth. Jason's men however we no longer scattered, they had all rushed to Jason's side to see if he was still breathing. Jason hadn't meant to collapse, but he did. His insides didn't feel charred which he took as a good sign.
He slowly sat up and realized he didn't feel half dead. He knew his father was Jupiter but he'd never been struck by lightning before. On the bright side he had his cohort's attention now. Jason gradually rose and with a shake of his head said "Well, That'll wake you up. Whoa. Okay" Jason turned towards the praetors "You were saying?" Telemachus was shooting daggers at him either for interrupting him or for merely existing. No matter what Jason could never get leverage with this guy. Aaron however looked more sympathetic "Grace, Please don't ever do that again." The Augur approached him and with a firm pat on the back he concluded "Ever!" The legion chucked at that. Jason always thought it strange that even in the midst of unavoidable danger the legion managed to act as one. They were all teenagers, kids, who could barely stand still and yet when their city and heritage needed them they always rose to the occasion. Jason gazed across all the faces that he knew, his friends, his family, but Jason noticed a face was missing. Where was Reyna?
