The hardest part about coming up with a plan was not knowing where anything is. You know the feeling where you think you left something in another room and when you go in to get it you can't remember what it was in the first place? That was Reyna's whole mind when telling the Legion her idea. She knew what supplies she needed but she couldn't think about where to find them or it the Legion even had them.
Her whole plan was banking on the hope that her sister would win the duel. Reyna was not only counting on it but needed it in order to be successful. She remembered that Hylla would purposefully pick fights with the scruffiest pirates she could just to see if she were any good. Reyna remembered being terrified for most of her childhood but those moments on the ship and on the island topped the ghosts that haunted her before she left.
Reyna also didn't know if the Legion would follow her. Barely a new recruit, Reyna didn't even have her Probato tablet yet. She didn't know if she could trust them, or if they would turn their backs on her.
She though on it and she was wrong, not only was she counting on her sister but she also needed Jason. She knew that the Legion would follow him. If she could make it look like he was the leader and not her then maybe, just maybe, they could pull this off. First thing was first though. They needed to get off of this dock.
Reyna had been pushed through the darkness away from her sister, away from the wind spirit Kinzie, and towards a group of pre-pubescent males. Not nice. From where she stood facing them she didn't recognize many. Well, really, just two: Jason and Octavian. She didn't spot Aaron or Telemachus. This was bad.
"Amazons?" a boy to her left called.
"Yeah Hank! Stop picking at your podex and listen up! Who else do you think could pull off that sacking?" The boy who spoke this time was a taller guy on her right. If Reyna wasn't mistaken he had a dove shaped tattoo on his forearm.
"Michael!" Jason scolded "Hank's podex does not need to be announced every day! I'm sure we can get along just fine without it." He turned to Reyna. "You said something about a plan and not dying? Those are my favorite kinds. What were you thinking?" His eyes gazed eagerly at her, longing for a way out of this mess. Reyna only hoped she could deliver.
"Well I guess first, where is the arena? Or a big open area with lost of room for observers?" she asked glancing around.
"Probably the coliseum or the fields of Mars." Jason answered pointing towards the partially destroyed aqueduct first and then out into the darkness. Near the city Reyna could see the large walls of an open arena rising out of the early morning gloom. That was probably her best bet. From just her brief meeting with Estrada she didn't seem like the kind of women to keep things simple. For what was going to be one of the greatest duels of the century she would want to go all out. Reyna's stomach began to turn with nerves. Her sister was out there somewhere. Hopefully not already dead.
"That's where the majority of them are." She said pointing to the arena in the distance. "I overheard two of them talking, someone challenged the leader. A duel." She omitted the part about her sister and about the 'to the death' technicality.
"The rest of the legion is over there. Taking cover in the city." Jason said. Reyna saw the distant glow of civilization out to her right. There was so much to take in right now that it was tricky to keep it all straight. She had hoped that they would hand out a little brochure or map with the tour but no such luck.
"So, if we can get off the dock and make our way to the rest of the legion we can ambush the intruders in the middle of their fight. Catch them off guard." Michael was piecing together the plan. But Reyna could see the question in his face before he asked it. "How?"
She smiled and turned to the son of Jupiter next to her. "Have you ever electrocuted anything on purpose?"
