~ Jack's Room ~
It's been 4 days since the movie...
Here I was in my best friends house,
talking about Daniel.
And laying out the possibilities and outcomes
if I did this or that...
Or the other way around?
Ugh, I don't know!
This is killing me...
"I swear I am going to call Andy."
Jack insisted, which wasn't such a bad idea?
But I didn't want to know what would be the right thing to do if I told
Andy what happened during the movie.
Worried that it'd be the opposite
of what I wanted to do.
To completely stop and shut off
ALL the feelings
I had for Daniel.
To mention Daniel.
It was his birthday today.
He'd called me earlier this morning, asking if I wanted to come with him
to Mr. Miyagi's house tonight because, apparently, "Mr. Miyagi had something planned."
If only he knew.
But I was already in on the surprise.
Couple days ago,
Mr Miyagi spoke to me about it.
And just yesterday, after school,
Mr. Miyagi and I had gone into town
to buy his birthday cake.
A simple one with white icing
with a "Happy Birthday Daniel!"
piped across the top in bright red frosting.
We even stuck thirteen pink candles on it.
Since those were the only ones they had available.
Anyways...
Jack and I were sprawled across his bed,
the boombox sitting on the floor beside us and filling the room with music.
The song "Only Over You" by Fleetwood Mac played.
How ironic?
Well...
Well, other than filling the room with music,
it was filling my head with approximately
a thousand different thoughts.
I stared up at the ceiling.
"I don't know what I'm supposed to do."
Jack, lying beside me, tossing this baseball
up and down and catching it.
"About Daniel?"
"Obviously? Who else
could I possibly be talking about?"
He shrugged, catching the ball.
"Just tell him."
Like it'd be that easy!?
I immediately sat up.
"Tell him what?"
"That you like him."
"Jack."
"What?"
He stopped and looked at me,
and oh did I pray that ball
would come plummeting down to his face.
"It's not that easy."
"Why not?"
He continued tossing it up and down.
"Because- Because of Ali!
Ughhh!"
It bothered me, cause I don't think he knows
how frustrated I am about this.
"I can't just do that to Ali, can I?"
I couldn't handle lying down,
and Jack then sat up too.
"Okay, but-"
"And what if he still likes her?"
"Then-"
"And what if he doesn't?"
"Hold on, Y/n/n-"
"And what if I completely misread everything
and he thinks I'm some kind of-"
"Y/n."
"What?!"
"You're doing the thing."
I frowned.
"What thing?"
"The thing where you ask yourself
a ba-jillion hypothetical questions
before anybody, ESPECIALLY ME
eve gets a chance to answer the first one."
I opened my mouth.
Then closed it.
I didn't realize I was already rambling...
"...I don't do that."
Jack stared at me. I stared back.
"Okay, maybe I do."
He laughed
"Sometimes!"
I added, plopping back down onto the bed.
Did I just wanna curl up into a ball,
and hug a pillow and forget all these feelings!
"Exactly."
Instead, I grabbed a pillow and lightly
shoved it into his face.
"You're not helping."
"I am helping!"
I noticed he still had that ball in his hands.
I didn't hesitate.
"Y/n- NO!"
Jack ducked, thinking I was gonna hit him.
I would never.
If given the chance to, maybe just a pillow.
But, I grabbed the roughed up baseball
and threw it on one of his his walls,
so close to toppling over his swimming trophy
on one his shelves.
"No, you... Are making it worse."
I breathed sitting back down and feeling a wave of relief gush over me after that.
That felt nice.
"Hey!
Well, I'm trying! Jeez...
Did you friend come for a visit-"
My eyes darted towards him, and he,
"Okay! I'm sorry! I- I was joking!"
He ducked for cover, his hands over his heads.
"Do not make me throw
that baseball at you Henderson-"
