“So, are you still grounded?”Leah asked as we sat in her bedroom. Her room was a light blue color that I had always admired. Though my favorite color was purple, I liked this color, too.
I nodded and kicked my feet up on the end of her bed, leaning back into the chair.
Leah frowned. “How did you get out?”
“Easy,” I replied. “I told my mom that I needed to go to the grocery store.”
“Oh.”
I smiled before turning to the clock. There would only be a couple of more minutes before my mother would call me and ask me where I was. I had my driver’s license, but my mother didn’t want me to ever take advantage of that. If my mother knew where I was, she would probably kill me. I was surprised when my mom even let me out of the house. I mean, eventually I’d have to come out, so why not now?
“How come you didn’t get in trouble?” I asked suddenly and turned to Leah. “I mean, you had alcohol, right?”
Leah shook her head. “No…I didn’t.”
“But you were around it. Wouldn’t your mom ground you just for that?”
“My mom doesn’t know,” Leah looked down. “I told my dad, and he took care of it…”
I frowned. “Damn, I wish I had a dad at a time like this.”
“Oh, yeah…,” Leah sat up and leaned over to rest her hand on my arm. “I’m really sorry, Alex.”
“It’s okay,” I shrugged her hand off and stood up. When I looked over to the door, Leah’s little brother stood in the doorway. His thumb was in his mouth and his face held a face so sad, it made me forget completely about my non-existent father and want to comfort him.
Leah jumped up from her bed and ran up to her brother. “Liam! Get out!”
I watched as she slammed the door in his face. She turned back to me, half expecting me to yell at her. I’ll admit, I would usually do that, but I’ll surprise her this time.”
“Shut up. I don’t want to hear it.”
My hands landed defensively on my hips and I stomped out. “I’ll call you later.”
As soon as I was out of Leah’s house and in my car, I suddenly felt weary. My head started to throb as I realized that I hadn’t yet told Leah, let alone anyone, about my experience with Michael. I mean, we had sex for crying out loud! Shouldn’t I be telling my friend all about it?
Shaking it off, I started my car and drove off to my house. The radio blasted some rap song with a guy’s voice so low that when I tried to sing along, my voice cracked. Wonderful. My house soon came into view and I felt my breath hitch when I saw another car in the drive way. I don’t know who that was and I’m not looking forward to finding out who it is…
I turned off the car and got out, grabbing my purse and keys. I felt my phone buzz in my pocket but I decided to ignore it as I stepped through the threshold. My mom sat on the couch, her hands in her laps. Across from her, with their back to me, was a person sitting in our tall black lazyboy. The person had short hair, so it could be a girl or a boy.
“Mom? What’s going on?” I asked slowly and dropped my purse on the table by the door.
I stepped forward and turned to see the person that was sitting in the chair. My eyes widened when I noticed it was an older woman probably in her late fifties. She had small, but noticeable bags under her eyes that suggested she doesn’t sleep well at night. Her hair was a strawberry blonde color pulled back into a high bun on top of her head.
“Mom,” I said again in a stern voice. “Who is this?”
My mother stood up and ruffled out her skirt, and then looking back up at me. “This is Mary Knight. She is the headmaster at St. Matthew’s prep school, up on the north side of town-“
I shook my head. “This is what you meant when you were making changes?” I cried out, my voice cracking on contact.
“Yes,” My mother faked a smile. “This will be good for you, and it might just straighten you up. I know that you weren’t actually at the grocery store. You probably went over to Cale’s didn’t you?”
“Leah’s, actually.”
My mother laughed and rolled her eyes. “That’s what I’m talking about! Your smart-ass remarks.” She turned to Mary Knight. “Excuse me for my language.”
Mary shook her head. “No problem.”
“As for you, young lady,” My mom turned back to me. “You will not go to the public school, here in town any longer. As of August twenty-fourth, you will be attending St. Matthew’s.”
“What?” I yelled out again, making my voice sour. “This is bullshit!”
Mary Knight stepped forward. “There will be room at the academy to help you with your language.”
Awesome.

I'm so sorry for the wait! But here's a short chapter (I'm sorry for that, too).
Unfortunently, there will be another wait. In four hours, I leave for Florida to visit my grandparents. I will not be back till the 6th of July, so enjoy this small update. I don't know if I'll be able to update while I'm there, so just expect me not too. Sorry again!
