                “You….what?

Jessica nodded and looked down, nervous and scared. “Evan raped me at the party…”

I scrunched up my face, disgusted. I used to know Evan. We were friends in elementary school. After middle school started, I noticed some dramatic changes in his life. His parents died, both of them. And that’s when he started with the drugs and alcohol.

I reached my hand out, grasping it over my sister’s. A silent tear fell down her rosy cheeks as she looked down. “Jess…I’m so sorry…”

She sat up and pulled away from me. She shook her head. “No. It’s fine. The past is the past-you can’t change anything.”

“Okay,” I replied. Then a question hit me. “Whose party was this?”

“I told you. It was Olivia’s. But her brother crashed it and he’s the one who brought the drinks. He spiked the fruit punch that Olivia and I made.”

                I shook my head. “No…Olivia wouldn’t do that; she’s a good girl.”

“Well,” She looked down. “…She had only invited a small group but word got out, and it ended up being a huge deal.”

Nodding, I looked away. Jessica sighed and leaned forward. “Do you want to know why I told you all of this?”

“Yes,” I said as I turned back to her. I frowned. “Considering you’ve never confessed something even close to this.”

She nodded silently and closed her eyes. “Are you sure you want to know?”

                “Yes!” I rolled my eyes.

“You have to promise me that you won’t get defensive…”

                 “Okay! Just tell me.”

                “I think…I think that you’re pregnant.”

I froze my mouth agape. Every bone in my body had turned to cold stone. Jessica’s face held the same shocked expression. I know that I usually would get defensive, but this was something completely different…a delicate topic. Jess wouldn’t tell me something like that unless she truly thought it. She actually thought I was pregnant? No…it wasn’t possible. There’s no way I can be pregnant; I’m only sixteen! But Michael said that he hadn’t used protection…that we hadn’t used protection.

It didn’t even occur to me that I wasn’t breathing until I choked. The desperate oxygen came out and I inhaled deeply, urging to replace it. My sister frowned and I noted that her eyes were a glassy color.

I swallowed as I tried to compose myself. “You…you think that I’m pregnant?”

                I whispered the last part.

“Yeah-I really do. You’re having the same symptoms that I had when I first found out.”

“But I…,” My breathing hitched. “I don’t even know if I am, yet.”
