"What did you tell him at the movies after I left?" Dally mumbled.
"Dally! You're supposed to be sleeping!"
"Cherry said that she would fall in-"
"Don't make me turn this car around!" I instantly closed my mouth. I glanced at Johnny and he was shaking. He grabbed my hand, clutching it tightly.
"Cherry, you're scarin' Johnny." I trailed off at the end, terrified of what her reaction might be.
"Oh darlin'! I'm so sorry!" Cherry pulled the T-Bird into a gas station, filling up the tank. Dally turned around in the passenger seat, looking at Johnny and I, our hands still locked together.
"So, what was the doll talking about me for at the movies, huh?"
"She said if she ever saw you again, that she would fall in love with you."
"So, she does like me eh? Then why won't she go out with me to the Dingo? I deserve a chance, at least one." Dallas rolled his eyes and turned back around, his bleeding had stopped he and Cherry were sore. He ran a hand through his blond, almost white, tussled hair and sighed, looking longingly at her as she walked back from the small market store.
"What? Why are you staring at me Dal? And why are Johnny and Pony holding hands?" She gave a confused look, but shrugged it off and got in the driver's seat. I let go of Johnny's hand, he gave a small pout.
"Hey Cherry, when we get back, want to go to the Dingo with me?"
"Yeah! That sounds decent." She tried to make it sound like she didn't care, but we all know that she cares a lot about him.
Cherry stopped the car, got out, and put a few quarters in a black payphone booth. Dally motioned for me to get out of the car and go to Cherry and see what she's doing. I jogged to her side and glanced back at the car, Dally and Johnny were talking, and Johnny looked embarrassed.
"Yes, Two-Bit, it's Cherry Valace."
'Hey pretty lady, how you doing?'
"I'm fine, can I talk to Darrell please?"
'Darry? Oh yeah, hold on a second.'
Cherry stood there tapping her foot impatiently. She turned back to the car, facing towards Dally. Her eyes sparkled, her eyes smiled, but her frown was from the crackling phone.
'Cherry? What happened? Are you okay?'
"I wanted to say I found them and we're all okay, don't worry."
'Can I speak to Ponyboy, please?'
She handed me the phone. I gave her a questioning glance before I held it up to my ear.
"Hello?"
'Pony, I'm so sorry for what I did-'
"Darry, it's okay."
'No it's not! I should have handled the situation better and-'
"Darry, we're coming home!"
'I'm so glad, Pony. Get home safe, okay?'
"Alright, bye Darry."
'See you, Pony.'
I hung up the phone back to the booth. I looked over at the car and saw Cherry and Dally holding each other, and Johnny was watching the moon.
