Prologue ∞

"Things are the way they were meant to be, but sometimes we are the master of Fate."

When Rapunzel had another happily ever after with Flynn Rider, it surely didn’t give Boogeyman’s daughter—who calls herself Dementia—a favour. Not only there was another fairy tale children would root for—being unknown and infamous was the worst situation for the Pitch’s daughter conceived from deep, powerful hate after his appalling defeat from the Guardians.

One day, Gothel—Rapunzel’s so-called mother who abducted her when she was a baby—went to venture away for the sole reason of gathering Rapunzel’s eighteenth birthday gift. Before that moment, Flynn Rider would have been chased by the kingdom’s knights for stealing the princess’s crown. But then, Dementia appeared to Flynn just before he can notice that patch of thin moss that leads to Rapunzel’s tower.

Flynn almost jumped to his feet when something certainly not a horse appeared next to him. He tried to run away from the seemingly quaint woman wearing a black dress. Within seconds he was able to hide himself behind a rock. He was about to sigh in relief to see no one was following him when the very same woman spoke from his side.

“You must be Flynn Rider.” The woman said while enticingly smiling at him.

Panting from minutes of running away from the guards, Flynn had a difficulty in talking. “Who—are you?” He breathed. “What—do you—want?”

She smiled sweeter as if Flynn wasn’t freaked out.

“What? I’m running away from those—“

Flynn was talking, but he stopped when they both heard a horse whine nearby. It alarmed him, but not the woman beside him.

“You are scared of a horse?” She mockingly asked him.

“You see,” Flynn said in a low voice, “I’m going to be hanged—either by those badass twins or the king—if I won’t get away now!”

The sound of horseshoes went nearer, and Flynn could swear that white guard horse knows there’s someone fishy behind a rock. But when the woman flicked her fingers, thin, black mist billowed towards where the sounds came from.

Although he can’t forget how that horse chased him endlessly and untiringly, Flynn can say there was a slight clutch he felt on his heart when he heard it whimper pitifully as if it’s going to...

A loud thud shook him up.

“What did you do?” Flynn asked her with warning eyes. He looked from over the rock, and saw that in where that white horse should have been were black ash. A sudden wind blew and swirled the ashes.

The woman in black puts her pointing finger on Flynn’s lips. “I did you a favour, so you have to listen to mine.”

As if hypnotizing him with her deep black eyes, Flynn found himself wanting to listen and follow what she wants.

“Eugene. I tell you to live a prosperous life. Sell that crown somewhere far, where no one would recognize it. Live as if there’s no tomorrow, and you would not meet any girl until I tell you so.”

Even though his conscious mind tells him not to, he said. “I will go far, far away from here.”

“I took care of the guards for you,” she said. “But you need to keep what I say.”

“I will.”

With another gesture of her hand, Dementia disappeared with a laugh and a trace of soot. The hypnotized Flynn Rider smiles as he reaches for his satchel. He looked at the gleaming crown with such greedy eyes. Before he knew it, he was already walking away from where Rapunzel’s tower was—while thinking of buying an island of his own.

Dementia watched him as she swirled with the cold air, evilly cackling to the fact she was one step closer to her goal by destroying another fairy tale.
