Episode Nine ∞ Moments
Jack Frost was another story.
Although Rapunzel thought he finally left her alone, she was wrong. Terribly wrong. While she was walking alone amongst the forest, Jack would appear to her.
Like the morning that came after their encounter with Pitch’s daughter, Dementia.
When Rapunzel woke up, the first thing she saw was a blurry image of a boy sitting on the same branch she slept on. She kept herself tight and pretended she saw no one. On the other hand, Jack was watching her all night long. He was constantly flying around the perimeter to check on things because he was afraid that something equally evil as Dementia or Mother Gothel will show.
With the help of her hair, she descended down the tree effortlessly. Jack would continue to follow her while he was floating in the air, but Rapunzel was excellent in pretending no one’s around. In by any ways, she admitted she didn’t notice him while she was sleeping with an open mind and senses. So it had been easier she was used to being alone back then, too.
But the truth is she doesn’t want to say anything rude to him—as she was capable of because of what she’s feeling for him right now.
Without a word, Jack was hovering above her while she walks, trying to figure out what direction should take. In her mind, she was thinking of going to the kingdom miles and miles away from where she was now. Maybe if she would reach it miraculously by herself she would try to start there and find her real parents.
For how long, Rapunzel had no idea. She never felt so alone more than ever.
Forming arrows made of frost didn’t work on Rapunzel, as Jack thought everything would be easier. Whenever Rapunzel was going the wrong way—like just going back from where she started—he would cast out signs like the wind and frosts on trees to lead her to the kingdom.
But sadly, when Rapunzel saw an arrow pointing to somewhere she would ignore it. Maybe I’m not really sure if I can trust him, she would think.
“I’m sure you’ll like this,” Jack muttered to himself with a smile. With a wave of his staff, a light snowfall burst. The snow looked so delicate any kid would be tempted to touch and play with it.
When that moment Jack casted snowfall around where Rapunzel was, she just looked oblivious and ignored the snow. Rapunzel knew Jack was following her, and she was doing her best not to give in. The snow was falling so slow it seemingly was calling her to play.
Of course it pissed Jack more than anything. He was making every kid in the world happy! But now he felt attached and stuck to this task that brought him nothing but emotional assessments.
Yet a part of him didn’t want to leave Rapunzel.
The next day, Jack was still around when Rapunzel woke up.
What was different this time around was Jack was trying to catch Rapunzel’s attention with his catchy snow tricks and his irresistible jokes. No girl—ultimately Tooth Fairy’s fairies— was born to resist his sparkly smile. Or maybe it was Rapunzel—it even made her think Jack was pretty confident more than he should be. With the help of Pascal as distraction, Rapunzel managed not to notice him.
This time around, it’s not just snowing around Rapunzel—the woods were covered by a thin sheet of snow. But even though Jack was so happy for a minute—and Rapunzel, too, deep inside, she felt unnerved that her bare foot felt snow—he realized covering everywhere Rapunzel goes with cold snow while she wasn’t wearing anything else but her night clothes wasn’t a very good idea.
Jack even tried to make animated snow figures for Rapunzel, hoping she would talk to him and let him apologize. He wanted to, he really do.
When Rapunzel was about to sleep, lest Jack could do was to block cold winds from blowing on Rapunzel. Admittingly, a part of him was unsettling when he sees her shivering to his presence. He could never summon fire, and for him it was the best idea so far.
Or maybe he could stay away from her in the distance while she sleeps—because it will be super creepy for a teenage girl like Rapunzel to be watched while she’s sleeping. It’s never been romantic for Jack Frost.
