Episode Six ∞ Dementia Works

Last episode of Mr. Winter Meets Ms. Blondie!

Jack Frost finally met Eugene Fitzherbert—better known as Flynn Rider—and they set a course back to Rapunzel’s tower. Yet even before setting away, Jack had a taste of what is there to come.

Just before Jack Frost and Flynn Rider can pass through the outskirts of the kingdom, gruesome things happened again.

                There came a moment when Jack had to release Flynn—“No, no! Don’t let me go! No!” Flynn cried out, trying to hold onto Jack’s free arm—just so he will avoid those spiralling shadows flying overhead and underhand.

                The same laughing was coming again from nowhere. As if the one laughing was so much amused, it was slowly making Jack uncomfortable. As they put more distance from the seaside cottage, the sound of a woman cackling gets louder.

                Jack suddenly remembered that one time Pitch’s shadows almost overwhelmed him. Not only Pitch was at the height of his power, but the other Guardians apart from Sandman were getting weaker.

                Although the bitter blizzards he summoned were strong enough to turn Easter Bunny into a frozen figure, the shadow horses were just keeping on coming back. The moment they burst, it only takes less than a minute for them to re-form again.

                “Hold on to the crown, Flynn!”  Jack shouts as he swatted another shadow figure away. If it has to be Pitch, it was undeniable that he had gone stronger.

                As much as thinking of giving up, Jack thinks it’s too early. He was now thinking of Rapunzel—about how his winter senses were telling him she’s in imminent danger. He was thinking how much she needs him. And how much she needed Flynn.

                When a single strike of shadows overcame Jack, the other shadow horses came for Flynn. Virtually defenceless, Flynn was just holding a small dagger.

                And that won’t do much.

                From the woods, a silhouette of a woman nearby came into their view. She was just standing, as if observing them. Then when the familiar laugh came again, Jack swore it came from the woman.

                Give up. You have no place here.

                It was the kind of voice he was hearing from inside his head. But then, it wasn’t the Man in the Moon—he was sure of it. Someone was now messing with his head.

                “No!” Jack yells. A forceful gale surrounds him, disintegrating the shadow billowing towards him. For a minute he remembered Flynn. He’s gone.

                Around a corner, Flynn was standing still. It would have been really fine if they weren’t in the middle of an ambush. Slowly, a black mist was coming towards him.

                Jack realized something. They’re coming for Flynn.

                As much as he tries to get to Flynn, dark figures were blocking Jack’s path. Those black horses kept coming on his way from nowhere just to be obliterated by the frost he was summoning.
