Episode Sixteen ∞ Do Svidanya

II

Jack rolled over to one side to avoid careening nightmare horses from...whatever they can do. He wasn’t sure—never was—what they can do once they hit him, but it’s better off not knowing.

He couldn’t feel any more stupid for himself—where had his staff been? And why in the world did he leave it at the inn—unattended and vulnerable?

Dementia was laughing; but something in her tone expressed fear. Someone might have known her past—and she could feel it. But then, she was the last person to think of crumbling confidence. She was starting to win this game. With Jack Frost powerless and Rapunzel emotionally devastated...she could feel victory chiming near.

Jack wasn’t anywhere from recovered out of the last attack, but there were nightmare sand in the form of blunt arrows coming for him. He wished he could channel his power (which was really out at the moment) into his fingertips and unleash it towards the enemy. But he couldn’t even run a couple of meters without panting.

“This story is mine!” Dementia mused. “MINE!”

From the corner of the room where the king and queen is, Rapunzel was trying to focus herself. There were several thoughts swimming inside her head relentlessly.

Jack. Dementia’s wrecking everything. Jack. Dementia is winning. Jack. My parents are unconscious, what do I do? Jack. Jack Frost.

Then a powerful thought crossed her mind—a thought she didn’t expect to come out from her.

This time, I need to save him.

Rapunzel was just in time when she kissed her parents’ foreheads and left them so she’ll be on the center of the battle. Jack was there, crossing a pillar before it fell down that would’ve crushed him. Looking on the busted ceiling, Rapunzel saw Dementia—and what surprised her is the realization she was the woman who’d talked to her and gave her their masks.

                “Good night.”

                That was what she said.

And in the bottom of her puny heart, it ignited a fire.

                “Dementia!” Rapunzel called out.

Before sending another wave of nightmare horses towards Jack, Dementia stopped at the process. She turned her head towards Rapunzel—who was holding a length of her hair in both of her hands.

Dementia’s eyes widened for a moment, but she quickly regained herself. “Well, you want to try yourself against me? Most idiotic idea I’ve ever heard. Or seen. Whatev.”

What the evil woman doesn’t know and what Rapunzel can see, from where she was standing was a platform being supported by a shaking, weakened pillar. From her perception, just a single force would collapse everything.

“Why would you protect Jack Frost, anyway?” Dementia asked her with wide eyes. “For instance, he doesn’t really love you! For the second instance, you two will never be together! For the last—“
