“Hey.”
A knock on her room’s door was enough to snap Rapunzel back to reality. She was so deep in her thoughts she almost thought for a second that the one she was thinking of was the one who knocked.
Which, is relatively impossible.
“Come on in, Flynn,” she said.
Flynn peeked inside before coming in. He was wearing the ‘prescribed’ attire for Rapunzel’s party, which were a white long-sleeved shirt and a dark blue vest. The king insisted that Flynn looked “manly and respectful” wearing formal clothes. And yes, to answer the thought, the king and queen pardoned Flynn when he admitted his fault of stealing the princess’ crown. He could remember how thoughtful and kind they were to him.
“Just don’t ruin our trust, Mr.—?” the queen trailed off as Flynn cuts her.
“—Fitzherbert. It’s Eugene Fitzherbert,” he continued.
As he went over to sit near the window next to Rapunzel, he could sense her sadness. They watched the townspeople dance and celebrate down on the enhanced palace grounds, and after a minute, Flynn sensed it was the perfect time for a pep talk.
“It’s been seven days, blondie,” he told her. “You’re not over it, are you?”
Her eyes shifted to him. She tried to smile. “What is it that I’m not still over at?”
He sighed. “Jack told you that he’ll be fine, right? I knew it was what he said to you.”
She left his eyes and stared over the window down. The crown nested on her head perfectly just as it was made for her was sparkling, and no guy would resist not to be amazed at how pretty she was while wearing a white ball gown. It perfectly matches her short, brown hair. Rapunzel first insisted that a grandeur welcome party would be too much, and second was that an elegant gown to be worn for only one day is too much as well. But then, she is the princess. She needs to be used on these things.
“How did you even know I was thinking about him?” she said instead.
“I do feel people around me,” Flynn replied with a smile. “Today’s your day, no reason to be sad.”
“I’m confused, Eugene.”
His eyebrows furrowed. “Confused of what? You’re supposed to wear the pink dress for the luncheon and not that white one?”
She looked at him warningly, which he just shrugged and laughed off.
“You can tell me things,” he said when the awkward seconds of silence passed. “Don’t tell me you don’t trust me yet? I’ve already told you all about what I can recall about the adventures of Flynnigan—“
“You’re a guy,” Rapunzel intercepted, “so you’re not supposed to understand what I feel.”
Flynn scooted closer to her, as if urging her on.
“I’m confused,” she said. “Jack, he—he just left. He—“
“Wait, he didn’t exactly leave you,” Flynn said. “He even gave you—“ Then he stopped talking when he noticed that she was frowning at him. “Okay, sorry. Shutting myself until you’re done.”
