My eyes fluttered open to darkness. I began to panic, not knowing where I was or what had happened to get me there. I sat up and the room began to fade into view. Brick walls surrounded me and there were two small windows near the ceiling. They allowed in very little light, but even so, from the light shining through, I determined it was nighttime.
I stood up and walked over to the window, grabbing the bottom ledge and getting up on my tiptoes to try and see where I was. But it was fruitless, seeing as weeds had grown right in front of the small window and the window was absolutely filthy. I growled under my breath and pushed myself away from the wall.
I walked up to the iron bar door and grasped two of bars, screaming for someone to let me out before I broke out myself. Closed spaces drove me wild, they'd haunted me for as long as I could remember.
"As much as you may think you can, you won't be able to," A familiar voice sounded as footsteps started down the seemingly deserted hallway. From the shadows emerged a man - tall with dark hair and dark eyes, a scarf wrapped around his neck. I didn't think I'd ever seen him before. He walked up to the cell I was locked in and a smirk crawled across his face. "You're weak, Kenya, and you will be until you agree to follow your true destiny."
"And you are?" I asked the man.
"It's none of your business who I am," He replied, clasping his hands behind his back, "Now, if you-"
"Well if you've decided to work with the man who kidnapped me, I should at least get to know who you are," I rolled my eyes and crossed my arms in rebellion.
"I think knowing my name shouldn't concern you," He smirked as he stepped closer, "You should rather concern yourself what he's going to do to you." I jerked at him, reaching out to grasp him. I snarled because he wasn't close enough to be reached. The man shook his head, "I wouldn't do that if I were you."
"And why not?" I tested the man.
"Because you wouldn't want to hurt your friend's true love, would you?" A smirk crept up onto face as I gave him a bizarre look. What the hell was he talking about? "Now, Kenya, it appears to me that you ran away from your pack."
"What does it matter to you?"
"Everything, my dear," He crossed his arms over his chest and tilted his hand to the side, "You see, you and Rachael aren't much different, both running away from your responsibilities. Maybe that's why you're such great friends even though the two of you lied to each other for four years straight."
"Who are you?" I insisted on knowing, anger boiling up inside of me.
"As of right now, an enemy," He smiled, "But we'll soon be on the same side." This guy - whoever he was - turned and began to walk away. I could hear him travel down a long hallway, then climb up a set of stairs.
I needed to get out of here no matter the cost, but my mind was clouded by the fear of my past, the mad men who kidnapped me, and the walls closing in. I locked my fingers together in a tight knot, lifting them over my head, and bringing them back down to clash with the iron door. I repeated my actions, ignoring the pain, the bruising, and the amount of noise I was making. Freedom was just outside of the metal bars, down that long hall, and up those stairs.
I knew being away from my friends, pack, and mate left them all vulnerable. The psychopath that kidnapped me wasn't going to just hurt me, he was going to destroy everything I loved and cherished. So every time I lifted my arms and brought them hurling down, I was thinking about them, working to get back to them, to protect them. But like the man had told me, it was pretty much useless. I collapsed on my knees, heaving lumps of air into my lungs, and in the distance I could hear the same footsteps. I knew that they were coming for me. I kept my head down, knowing my past was inevitably going to come back to bite me in the ass.
