Chapter 16 - Kenya

We arrived at the pack house and all turned our vehicles off, getting out. I walked over to Patrick and told him to stay with Brendon, that I'd come out for him later. He nodded his head in understanding and I motioned for the rogues to follow me.

"Hey!" Patrick called after me, stopping me in my tracks. I glanced back at him. He took a few steps forward and said, "I want to make something clear. Just because I helped you tonight, doesn't mean we're friends. Because you and I, we are not friends. We never have been and we never will be. I don't care if Rachael's thinks you're her friend and cares about you and wants us to get along, because she doesn't know you like I do. I remember what you did, vividly, and I'll never forget it. So don't think that just because I saved your ass tonight that we're all buddy buddy, you hear me? Because once this is done with, you're not going to want to be my friend. You're not going to want to even be Rachael's friend. Okay?"

I let out a small laugh as I looked up at the night sky. "What in goddess's name would make you think that I thought we were friends?" My gaze was focused on the vampire, and I clenched my fists in an attempt to not lose control. "I have never considered us friends, maybe allies when the time comes, but we are certainly not friends." I rushed up and grabbed Patrick by the collar, bringing my knee up and into his abdomen. He choked. I gripped his hair and lifted his head so I could whisper in his ear, "Make me out to be the bad guy, I don't care. You and I both know you're not as holy as everyone thinks you are. I know the sins you carry, the horrible things you've done, and the price you have yet to pay. The day Rachael finally wakes up and leaves you will be the day I hunt you down and kill you." I could sense the fear coming from him, and I knew everyone was watching, but I didn't care. I pushed Patrick away from me and he fell to the ground. "But for now, we're working together." I smiled as I straightened my clothes. "So do me a favor - do your damn job, and leave me alone. Okay?"

I gazed around at everyone. They were all terrified, but also confused about what just occurred. I turned and started for my car. When I arrived, I yanked the door open reaching in for my jacket, but just before I was able to obtain the article of clothing, Jack grabbed my arm. I faced him and gave him my attention as he released my arm.

"What was that all about?" Jack whispered as I found my jacket then put it on, the rest of the rogues gathering around.

I glanced over my shoulder at Patrick who was leaning against the driver's side door, his arms crossed over his chest as he watched us from a distance. "Don't worry about it."

"I have a hard time not worrying," Jack stated. I slammed the door to the car shut and began to made my way to the pack house, the rogues trailing not too far behind. "Kenya happened between you and that vampire?"

"It doesn't matter," I lied. Jack caught up to me as we made our way to the pack house's side entrance, which lead directly to Alpha Anthony's office. "Let's worry about us getting permission for you all to be in the territory first."

"You're a fool, Kenya!" Patrick yelled as I walked away, "You think Rachael's going to leave me. But I've got her wrapped around my finger tighter than you've got Jack wrapped around yours." I stopped dead in my tracks, glaring back at him. I could see the red glow in Patrick's eyes.

"You really want to test me? Because I can kick your ass any day!" I shouted back at him. He hissed at me, which in turn made me growl. I bared my claws and teeth, ready for a kill. "You want to finish this right here and right now?"

"Gladly." Patrick's fangs extended, approaching me with great speed. I charged for him.

"Enough!" Arcadian cried, getting in between the vampire and I before we killed each other, "You two can finish your little feud later. Right now we've got other things to worry about, and one of those things is going to wake up any minute."
