"Mrs. Dornan," I heard someone whisper.

I sat up slowly, partially confused on my location and who Mrs. Dornan was. I rubbed my eyes to reveal a woman in dark blue scrubs standing at the end of the hospital bed. Then I remembered.

"Hi," I replied.

"I'm from Radiology. I've come to take your husband for a scan."

I yawned looking up at the clock on the wall to realize it was already early morning. I nodded at her and she walked to the opposite side of where I was seated. My back was achy; probably not a good idea to fall asleep sideways, but it wasn't like I'd intended to.

"Mr. Dornan," she said.

He didn't answer.

She gently rubbed his arm. "Mr. Dornan, wake up. It's time for your MRI."

I watched him intensely, waiting for him to move, and after a few more nudges he opened his eyes. He looked over at her before trying to sit up, obviously alarmed.

"You're okay," she said softly. "We need to take you for a test. Do you want to say good morning to your wife first?"

She looked at me and I swallowed hard before standing. When I did, he moved his head in the brace to face me.

"Hi, sweetie," I said.

He half-smiled. "Kelsey."

I said a silent prayer of thanks that he remembered me. That meant he didn't have a concussion after all.

"Shh." I leaned down and lightly kissed his cheek below one of the cuts. "I'll see you soon."

He lifted his hand to touch the side of my arm, which made me smile. The woman unhooked all of the wires then told him to tell me goodbye before pushing him into the hall. Once he left, I took the opportunity to see if his family was still in the waiting room.

Sure enough, when I walked out they all sat where I'd last seen them, holding cups of coffee.

"Morning," I said after I approached.

"How is he?" his younger sister asked.

"Groggy, but fine. He recognized me, so that's a good sign."

"Let me get you a coffee." His dad stood.

"No, you don't have to," I argued.

"I want to. It's the least I can do to thank you."

I looked between the three of them wondering what he had to thank me for. I hadn't done anything.

"For loving my son," he concluded.

His sisters smiled at me as I tried to suppress my blush. "I do, sir, a whole lot."

"He feels the same, trust me."

He walked away and I attempted to hide my obvious surprise at the revelation. How did he know how his son felt? Did they talk about me often? Jamie's sisters both hugged me and told me they were grateful he'd finally found someone to care for. Although for the time being I would be caring for him.

A few moments later, he returned with my coffee and we all sat together in silence, waiting for someone to tell us the results. Less than an hour went by and the same radiologist appeared. She greeted us each with a handshake.

"I have some good news," she began, "Mr. Dornan's scans came back clear."

She smiled at me specifically. "I was told they'll transfer him to a floor soon and he'll probably only have to stay one more night. He's going to be fine."
