"you are all the colors in one, at full brightness."

-----------

If I was being honest, this wasn't my first time in a jail cell. The first time I was caught for shop lifting a loaf of bread from a local super market. My parents had gone on one of their frequent "business trips" and had conveniently forgot to buy groceries.

My brother and I had survived for three days on saltines and tap water. When my 14 year old self, desperate for food, deemed it a great idea to steal food from the store. Quite apparently a lanky girl with a loaf of freshly baked bread stuffed under her jacket wasn't as inconspicuous as I had thought it to be.

Naturally I was practically shitting myself when I ended up in the back of an officer's squad car. He lectured me the whole way to the station whilst I made affirmation noises and nodded my head. My time in the cell was short lived as it was probably more of a scare tactic then anything else.

This time was entirely different though. Orion was sitting next to me muttering words under his breath. At one point I was almost positive he was casting a curse of everlasting damnation on me. (Which only added to my suspicions of him being some supernatural being.)

"Look on the bright side," I spoke interrupting Orion's curse. "This is way more exciting than twenty questions."

Orion slowly turned his body towards mine and looked at me blankly.

"Never again will I let you plan our adventures." He shook his head in disappointment and looked at something I couldn't see.

"You have to admit it was quite fun," I boasted.

"It was, up until the part we got arrested," he said pointedly.

"Minor detail."

"We almost got shot," the bluntness in which he spoke made me wince.

The arresting of Orion and Nyx (a few hours earlier.)

"Are you sure we're allowed to be here." Orion whispered next to me looking around suspiciously.

"Of course, I come here all the time. What would make you think otherwise?" I questioned whilst I continued walking through the woods.

"I don't know, maybe the multiple No Trespassing signs," he quipped.

I waved away his doubt and kept walking. About ten minutes later and a whole lot of whining from Orion we reached our destination.

Turning towards Orion I watched how his uneasy look turned into one of wonderment as he gazed upon the structure in front of him.

We were standing under a grand tree with a perfect tree house nestled in the branches. Fairy lights dangled from the outside and bottles clanked from the branches. He was quiet as we climbed the ladder and I showed him the interior.

The tree house was fairly simple in that it was composed of one big room. The inside was lined with more battery operated fairy lights. Paper cranes hung from the ceiling in frozen flight; and two walls were completely plastered with posters and my midnight musings. One corner was filled with blankets and pillows and a small box filled with cereals was off to the side.

"This is spectacular, how did you find this place?" Orion broke the serene air that surrounded us.

"I got lucky," I replied softly.

Orion walked over to study the wall of posters, before he got to my poems I beckoned him over to the corner of blankets.

"Over here, you haven't even witnessed the best part."

There was a sizable hole in the ceiling, originally I had thought of covering it up; but I decided against it and instead used it to my advantage. Shimming up and out with Orion close behind, we came out on top. I walked to the edge and sat down with Orion coming to settle besides me.

There we had a perfect view of the uninterrupted night sky.

"Over there is Cassiopeia," I utterly softly pointing to the constellation. "Neptune placed her in the heavens, but wanted to humiliate her for the rest of eternity. So she was placed on her throne with her head pointed towards the North Star; that way she spends half of every night upside down."

"Show me more," Orion uttered gently.

So I did, at some point in the process Orion gripped my hand when I was pointing out a star formation. He interlaced our fingers, and they didn't fit like lost puzzle pieces. His knuckles were slightly bigger than mine and my short fingers barely interlocked with his long ones.

My heart dropped in my stomach and I nearly choked. It took a few seconds for me to recover, although my voice came out shakier than before.

When I was finished, we sat in silence gazing up at the night sky. Orion shifted to look at me, and it was in my nature that I hadn't planned on making eye contact.

Well not until Orion spoke.

"Nyx," it was like his tone was coaxing me in to looking in his direction.

And when I did he was a breath away. His eyes looked like they held all the stars and suddenly the midnight sky didn't seem so wondrous anymore.

Freckles and a scatter of beauty marks flecked his skin and suddenly constellations weren't as magical.

Before I had the chance to drink in more of Orion, his lips were against mine. At that point the sun could have crashed into the earth and I wouldn't have even noticed because the smell of fresh rain and the taste of mint was invading my senses.

Chapped lips overtook mine and I swear Orion was a black hole. And it was inevitable for me to fall into his orbit, unable to escape.
