"tonight we are victorious."

"I thought you agreed to go along with my idea," Orion grumbled under his breath as we entered the empty building.

"I did but that was before you lost rock, paper, scissors."

"If I knew you were the luckiest person to live I wouldn't have played you. Nyx this better not end up like the last event you planned, my parents will only bail me out of jail so many times."

"Luck Orion? My winnings were based purely on skill, luck is winning twice in a row. Skill is winning nine times without fail." He laughed lightly next to me but I could still feel his unease.

"Don't worry about it," I gripped his hand a bit tighter to reassure him and continued towards the abandoned front desk.

"How the hell did you even get us in here?" He was gazing around unsurely when I let go of his hand and disappeared behind the counter.

"I've got connections, what's your shoe size?"

"Connections, what does that mean? It probably entails you stealing the keys off the unsuspecting owner and waltzing your way in here without a care in the world. And size 10." The volume of his voice had risen considerably. I could almost picture him roughly running his hand through his hair and two red patches forming on his cheeks.

I reemerged with two pairs of neon orange and yellow shoes in hand. We made our way down towards the lanes and began to search for bowling balls.

"Remember Cory Blenski?" I winced slightly saying his name out loud.

"Your Edward?" Orion questioned bitterly as he began punching in our names.

"Well," I ignored his quip, "It just so happens that he's the owner's son. And still every bit as creepy as he was in the 8th grade."

My body shuddered thinking about his lingering gaze on my chest. Even in a baggy flannel and stuttering sentences I somehow managed to persuade him to hand over the keys.

"So what? He succumbed to your worldly charms and just handed over the keys." His voice held a note of jealously.

"Something like that, and really Kitten?" I gestured towards the black letters printed on the screen.

He shrugged, "It suits you. The way your nose scrunches up when you get mad, the stretch you do when you wake up. And you're so adorable," he cooed pinching my cheeks.

Swatting his hands away my hip bumped his  and I took over the spot he had vacated. His groan echoed in the empty building once he had seen what I had typed.

"Nyx, you know that name gives me shivers of disgust." I snickered seeing his obvious distaste to the blinking five letters.

"What if I'm trying to tell you something," my hands subtly caressed my stomach.

For a brief moment Orion's eyes held a hint of panic as he stared incredulously at my stomach. Soon logic caught up with him and he gave me a charming smile.

"I don't quite remember how this baby came to be. Would you do me the honor of refreshing my memory?" His hand shot out, a bit hesitantly, to brush a few strands of my hair behind my ear.

My breath hitched at the contact but with a small step forward we were pressed together. I brought the side of my face against his and my lips to his ear.

"First you'll have to beat me in bowling," my lips briefly connected with his cheek.

I took a step back and headed towards our lane where I promptly got a strike.

"Shit. My fantasies just went up in flames, Kitten."

"There'll be other nights Daddy," the nickname left a bad taste in my mouth. But Orion's facial expression was worth it.

"Alright I concede, just please don't call me that anymore. It makes me feel like we're apart of some weird porno."

He grabbed the bright pink bowling ball he had chosen for himself and flung it at the pins. Or tried to anyway, the ball landed neatly in the gutter with a loud bang.

I could already feel my victory.

By the end of the game I had a perfect 300 and Orion hadn't hit a single pin. Not one had fallen, in fact the light in his eyes seemed to dim as the game progressed. I put the bumpers up for him despite his protests, even then he somehow managed to throw the bowling ball directly into the gutter.

"Come on Orion, I'll make you a drink to drown the disappointment." We gathered our bowling shoes to deposit them back to their rightful spot. Then made our way towards the bar where I fixed us both red colored drinks in plastic cups.

"What's this?" Orion questioned looking into the cup suspiciously.

"A Shirley temple try it," I took a gulp of my own and happily chewed the cherry that it contained.

"Gladly," he pushed the drink away to lean over the counter.

He placed his hand on my face and pressed his warm lips to my cold ones. He parted my lips with his tongue and my toes curled. I pulled away when the oxygen in my lungs was gone.

"Cherries," he said decidedly resting his forehead against mine.

"You're missing one key ingredient," I hummed.

"Can I have another taste?"

"It's ginger ale," I nudged him a bit and set his drink in between us. "Did anyone ever tell you that you're extremely cheesy?"

Before he lifted the cup to his lips he smiled softly, "Well you, Nyx, are extremely beautiful."

Orion spoke with such sureness. It seemed that he was simply reciting a well known fact, like the sky is blue or the earth is round.

And it was the first time I truly believed that I could be beautiful.
