"oh, reckless abandon like no one's watching you."

-------

I scoffed, came to collect that favor, my ass. It had been three years, these things did have their expiration dates, right? What made him think I still owned him after what happened, if anything he owned me.

"Cut the bullshit, we both know that's not the only reason you came back."

Now normally I was timid and shook like a leaf in the wind anytime anyone glanced in my direction. But I had known Jasper since the 1st grade, when he smashed my sandcastle and laughed at the tears streaming down my face.

"Always so blunt Nyx, definitely didn't miss that." He spoke with an amused smile.

"You didn't answer the question," my teeth started to grit in annoyance at his avoidance.

"All in due time, now if you'll excuse me. I've got places to be." He breezed past me and disappeared around the corner.

"Pain in my ass," I muttered under my breath. Grabbing my cart I made my way over to Orion and towards the check out lines.

"Was that the 'other man'?" Orion whispered in my ear.

"Hardly," I grunted, trying to sound unaffected by his proximity, "just an old friend."

"You guys didn't look too friendly," he rose his eyebrow at me.

Shrugging, I began to set my items on the black conveyer belt.

20 minutes later & $150 gone, we were all in my truck again.

"Nyx, do you love me?" I heard my brother ask in his "I want something" voice.

"What is it this time Leo?"

"Well, Violet really wants to see my comic book collection. So could she maybe please come over today?" He looked at me with pleading eyes and behind him Violet was biting her lip in anticipation.

"Leo..." This wasn't a good idea, they could come back. Reeking of beer and dragging their washed out friends with them.

"It's alright with me," Orion piped in from beside me.

I held back my glare and mulled over his words. It was unlikely that they would be back anytime soon, they appearances slowed down to about once a month.

And I needed answers, it could be the perfect time to ask Orion all the questions that had been piling in my head since I met him on the railroad tracks.

"Alright, but I get to choose the radio station," I sighed loudly and slowly grinned when I noticed him and Violet share excited expression.

Within moments the angelic voice of Hozier replaced Britney Spears. And I sighed happily and continued to drive home all while trying to ignore the feeling of Orion's jean clad leg pressed up against me.

We finally arrived at our worn out blue house, which was great considering my imagination was getting a little wild. (Let's just say prolonged skin contact with Orion was making me a little delirious).

The four of us unloaded the groceries. Whilst I put them away Leo & Violet scampered up the stairs like their asses were on fire.

Orion offered to help but I instructed him to sit down when he accidentally put the cereal in the refrigerator. However, Orion didn't listen to me and ended up exploring the rest of the house, excluding the upper level.

"Damn Nyx, does anyone even live here?" He questioned after he inspected the spotless kitchen and what little furniture we had scattered throughout the living room.

The tips of my ears got hot, "I just like to keep things clean."

"Sparkling apparently," he looked down pointedly at the shiny tile floor that I had spent two hours scrubbing the other night.

"I clean, you chew every bite of food 23 times and avoid the cracks in the sidewalk. Everyone's got something, Orion." Looking over I saw Orion's face pale slightly and for once he was speechless.

"I noticed Orion," I beckoned him over to the stairs and we began the ascent to my room.

"Already trying to get me in bed Nyx? Didn't take you for that kind of girl but I'm never one to turn down someone as beautiful as yourself." He quipped, evidently out of his stupor.

Did this boy know what the term personal space meant? I could feel his breath on my cheek and smell the scent of mint and fresh rain that always seemed to linger on him. This time I was the one left speechless, again.

Maybe if he took a few steps back I could think of something mildly intelligent to say or even talk without stuttering. Deciding the tense silence had gone on too long I opened my mouth, hoping something comprehensible would come out.

But Orion had other plans.

His hands gripped my waist lightly and he spun me around, before I got the chance to gasp his mouth was on mine.

His lips were like velvet and warmed my entire body. His hands still laid on my waist whilst his body pinned mine against the door. It was like he knew this one kiss was about to be my undoing. Like he knew I was so filled with elation, with his lips touching mine, that my body could float away.

After a few more moments my lungs protested with the need for air but my heart could probably continue to work with his lips on mine.

Orion seemed to notice the lack of oxygen entering our lungs and took his, now red & swollen, lips off of mine and rested our foreheads together.

We stood there for a few moments whilst I studied the faint freckles scattered across his nose and his inky black lashes.

He rubbed our noses together and brought his lips to my ear, "Don't think I haven't noticed the bags under your eyes or the bruises lining your arms."

Giving me a tender smile he opened the door behind us and we tumbled into my room.
