"thanks for the memories."

------------

After our kiss there was silence. I tried not to overthink the kiss, but that's what I did best.

Eventually we stopped star gazing and made our way back towards the cars.

Besides me Orion parted his lips and was about to speak when the clear sound of a gun being cocked sounded behind us. I slowly turned around only to be faced with the barrel of a shotgun.

The shotgun was attached to a hand and a hand to an arm and an arm to a body. A man who looked to be about forty, and who knew nothing about the act of showering, was aiming the end of the gun towards my forehead.

"This is private property," he said gruffly.

My mouth suddenly dried up and I couldn't utter a word. Orion stiffened next to me and tried to subtlety step in front of my body.

A short pause of heavy silence ensued before he started shouting again.

"The officers of the law will be here shortly."

When neither of us spoke he gripped the gun tighter and spoke again with more anger in his voice.

"What the hell are you doing here? You've got five seconds to answer before I put a bullet in this girl's brain."

Orion snapped out of our silence and spoke quickly.

"Sorry for the intrusion sir, we were under the impression that this land was open to the public. It won't happen again."

He seemed to ponder Orion's words, and at one point I thought he might actually let us leave.

But the universe decided that was too easy for me.

"Bullshit!" he spat venomously. His pointer finger was edging towards the tigger when I finally decided to speak up.

"The punishment for murder can be life in prison or death by lethal injection. Now I understand that we are trespassing; but even you must understand how the murder of two unarmed teenagers against a man with a gun will be perceived when the police show up." I said with shaky words.

My words seemed to anger and frustrate him further, but it seemed as they had their intended effect. His hands slowly loosened their grip on the gun, although it was still pointed in our direction.

We waited in tense silence for the police to arrive. After a few minutes a car drove up and two police officers stepped out.

I glanced over at Orion only to see the blue and red light reflecting off of his face. He portrayed no emotions and brushed his fingertips against mine.

After many inquiries we were herded into the back of the vehicle and headed towards the station.

The Now

Orion and I still sat in silence as I thought over everything. One of the police officers said that our bond was placed at $250. How in the hell was I going to get that money? I only had $5 to my name and not another living soul could help me. The bottom line being I was utterly and truly fucked.

After a few minutes an officer came to our cell and opened it with a key.

"Alright let's go, you've been bonded out," he said gesturing towards Orion.

Orion got up and left without so much as a glance in my direction.
