"Ma'am your father made it clear that he wanted no interruptions during the conference." The security guard said running after me.
Though I felt a pang of guilt, it wasn't enough to stop me from entering the room. In the dark room, I see the projector turned on and everyone's attention toward it. I quickly text my father, "You have some explaining to do dad."
Instantly I see my father's head turn away from the screen and toward me. I scowl at him as he walks over to me. As everyone is engrossed in the presentation an argument between my father and I ensue.
"I know why you're here and I'm sorry I didn't tell you sooner." He said looking at me sincerely. "So when were you going to tell me that I have a fiancé?" I hiss trying to keep my voice low.
He turned toward the screen and back at me. I could tell that he was truly contemplating canceling the meeting because of me. Before either of us could say something, the lights turn on, sending a blinding light to my eyes. Quickly I fix myself to look presentable. Caught off guard by everyone's attention shifting toward us, my father clears his throat.
"Ehm. That was a great presentation. I would like you all to meet my daughter, Nadine Lustre." He said giving me a smile trying to calm me down.
Before I could greet everyone, a women who looks to be in her mid 40's stands up. "Oh my! Nadine! It is so nice to finally meet you! You are more beautiful than I had imagined!" She said taking me into her arms.
"Oh uh. Uh. Hello. Nice to meet you Tita." I say greeting her in utter confusion. "Oh dear, I'm so sorry darling. I'm Samantha Reid, your mother-in-law." She replies. This leaves me shocked and honestly, scared. Am I really getting married?
I look at her, my eyes wide with shock. I knew my father had seen my reaction so he came to my side. "Mrs. Reid shall we speak about the details later on?" My father asks, his voice cooler than I would have imagined.
"Oh of course. I'm so sorry for bringing this up in front of everyone. I'm sure Lustre Industries will be doing a grand announcement. Sorry for ruining it. Oh my." She says in a panic.
"It's fine Tita. It was really nice to meet you." I say trying to defuse her panic. "I'm looking forward to solving this marriage issue." I add before leaving the conference room.
The biggest sigh exits my chest as soon as I close the door of the conference room. As I make my way to the ground floor, I can't help but member Mrs. Reid's face. She's a very beautiful woman... Her son must be a good-looking guy.
"Nadine! Get yourself together! You have a boyfriend!!!" I say, talking to myself as I get into my car. My rebellious act lasted shorter than I had planned, which left me no choice but to go to my remaining classes.
Finally a familiar face hugs me, "Hey." I say hugging him back. I never realized how tall Eli was until he is holding me in his arms.
"Where were you babe? You missed two of your classes." He says as he wraps his arm around my shoulder. I squirm under his arm as I remember the fact that I might be engaged.
"I went to the company to talk to my father about something. You know... Business stuff. You're graduating college this year babe, you really shouldn't be that worried about me. Focus on yourself." I reply trying to steer the conversation elsewhere.
As Eli plants a kiss on my forehead, a boy crashes into us. "Ouch." I let out dropping to the ground. My knee bleeding and my things covering the floor. The boy who had crashed into us was an unfamiliar face.
