"Coach was just telling us about this guy who's trying to join the team. And get this! He's trying to be on the starting line up. Can you believe that?!" Eli says to me agitated. I've noticed that Eli invests his time in things that were trivial, was he always like this? It's okay if someone wants to test out his skills... Why be mad about it? Pushing these negative thoughts aside I just continue to walk.
"If you see James in school, don't do anything that'll risk your graduation." I warn him. His face turned sour, "Why are we taking about that him again? Seriously Nadine."
I let out a sigh, "He goes here now. So please babe. I don't want you to get into anymore arguments." He rolls his eyes, but agrees. "Watch my practice today okay babe?" He reminds me, kissing me softly on the lips.
I was finally finished for the day and I make my way to the gym. Sarah Gonzales... I say seeing her in front of the gym doors. Suddenly I remember what Eli had told me earlier. "NO WAY!" I say running past Sarah and into the gym. There he was, James, shooting free throws in MY, I mean 'our' school team uniform.
An arm wraps around my waist and spins me around. "Eli." I gasp completely caught off guard, but I managed to put a smile on my face. "You came." He said titling my head upward and kisses me deeply. "Go practice." I say shooing him away. "Hey Nadine!" Some of the players greet me as I make my way onto the bleachers.
There was only one person on the team who had ignored me, James. To make matter worse, Sarah sits a few seats away from me, and my sense of comfort disappear instantly.
James begins to walk toward us and I could feel my heart beat faster the closer he got. It was quickly shattered when he completely ignores me and kisses Sarah. My emotions became wild, switching from relief to anger. There was one feeling I wish didn't exist... JEALOUSY. I hate myself for feeling it but I do.
"Hey babe... The guys want to go out and eat. Come with me! Some of their girlfriends are going to be there too so don't worry."
"Yeah suur-..." I attempt to say before being pulled away. "James..." I say shocked but slightly happy to see him. "You're coming with me today." He says in a loud tone, almost yelling. "James!" I hiss trying to silence him. I glance at the bleachers and Sarah's attention was only on us. I'm dead... I'm really dead.
"Stop we agreed!" I add now in a panic. "Hey what's the problem here?" Eli says his tone flat and his fist already into a ball. "Stay out of it, this is a marital issue." James says to Eli. "James! Stop!" I beg completely unprepared to explain everything that was happening between him and me. He was blowing our cover on the first day. "What did you say????!" Eli asks in confusion.
"Nothing back off." James replies walking out of the gym and his hands laced into mine.
"I hate your boyfriend." James says smacking his steering wheel. "Well I am HIS GIRLFRIEND James. I don't understand what's going on?! We agreed to keep this a secret!" I screeched in frustration. "THAT'S THE PROBLEM. YOU'RE HIS GIRLFRIEND! BUT GUESS WHAT NADINE, I'M YOUR FIANCE!"
"You have a girlfriendJames. I'm not the only who's guilty of doing something I shouldn't be doing."I shot back at him. He hits his steering wheel one last time and neither one ofus made a sound.
