Twenty One

I look at her unfazed. "Sure." I say smiling, waving my card in the air. We all take a seat in a Korean Bbq spot and I awkwardly take the seat beside James as all the members of the team quickly occupied the rest. Sarah happily took the seat on the other of James. I didn't have the right to be annoyed since SHE was his girlfriend. "Hey Jas... wanna switch seats?" I ask in a whisper. He flashes James, Sarah, and me a look and vigorously shakes his head. I roll my eyes and look at the menu in front of me.

As Sarah was about to say something, I cut her off. "Order whatever you guys want and as much as you guys want." I say happily. This caused the team to let out a quick cheer. I hear Sarah let out a frustrated grunt and turned her attention back to the menu, "I'll order the all-you-can eat for all the boys and for myself as well. Sarah what are you going to order? Her bill is separate." I say in a happy voice as the boys chatted with one another, not sensing the tension between Sarah and I. Across the table I could see Eli and Jason smiling at what I had said. They were the only ones that were really paying attention to what was happening.

"You look really nice today." Matt, a transfer student, said to me as his face blushed. "She's taken." Eli and James said causing an awkward atmosphere, but the team quickly ended it with their loud jokes.

Even as I resisted, I kept flashing looks toward James and Sarah. As she places her hand over his leg, he rolled his eyes but did not move her hand away. It angered me, but I refused to be what James's mom thought I was. "Na-dine! Na-dine! Na-dine! THANK YOU!!" The team chanted as large mounds of meat made its way to our table. James gave me a sweet smile and placed his hand on my cheek because he knew I was blushing from embarrassment.

His kind gesture caught me off guard and I placed my hand over his with a smile beaming from my face. "OHHHHH." The team let out. It quickly snapped me back to reality and I jerk my hand away from his. I revert my attention back to the team, unable to look at James's disappointed face. "Eat up guys! Congrats on the win today!" I say cheerfully. Jason shook his head, which I presume was about what happened between James and I. I quietly give him an apology and began to eat.

Even as I refused, James continued to cook and give me the meats that he knew were my favorites. After declining continuously, I gave up and began thanking him instead. "You should really pay attention to Sarah... She's getting irritated." I said looking at Sarah push her food around her plate with a scowl on her face. He patted my head and messed up my hair, "If you want something, you shouldn't just give it away. If you want me back, all you have to do is say it." He said looking at me before focusing his attention back to his food.

My heart skipped a beat and I could feel my face turn red. I glance a look at Jason and he gave me a smirk. "Stop." I mouthed at him. My phone buzzed and read the text in my head. James isn't dating Sarah! I got the information from one of James's closest friends on the team. I gasped loudly and caught James and Sarah's attention. This doesn't make sense. Why would James's mom and Sarah warn me about leaving James alone??? Why would they corner me at my own office?? I asked myself.

My heart was now racing vigorously. I quickly got up from my seat and scurried to the bathroom. "James is fair game." I said to myself. "I hate him... but I reaaaaaaaaally like him. I love him?? But his mom said to leave him alone. He broke my heart. UGH." I mumbled to myself in the hallway toward the bathroom of the restaurant.

Suddenly I feel something tug on my jeans. Someone had placed their finger through the belt hole and pulled me. I turn around to see James's face inches away from mine. "I want you." I blurted out.
