Kaylin Dark
"Like your team." Barry's eyes widened in shock.
"You know," he whispered.
"You just confirmed my suspicions. Trust me, Barry. When I was looking up Wells, I was trying to help you. To help save your life. Do not underestimate a man in a wheelchair. Looks can be deceiving." I walked away from him, knowing that he wouldn't chase after me because of the shock I left him in. I lied to Cisco. I told him I arrived as a college student. But instead I arrived as a 13 year old with no parents and no home to go to. But he didn't need to know that.
"Ma'am!" someone called out. I ignored it, knowing it could be anyone around me. Then when I looked around I realized that I was the only one around. I turned around and saw a man running towards me. "Could you help me? My wife was shot and I need your help," he said. I almost believe it. Almost. The precinct was right there and there was no real panic in his voice. He sucked at acting. I opened my mouth to say something when he covered my nose and mouth with a cloth. "Thanks." I felt myself slipping into darkness, but struggled to stay awake.
"Hey! Let her go!" Barry shouted. I struggled against the man, but he was twice the size of me. "Hey! Kaylin!" I felt myself go limp, my body parts all numb. No. No! Barry, help! "Let her go!" Right when he finished that sentence I heard a fist make contact with a face. A gunshot went off and my arm registered the pain. Apparently that arm was numb. I think I screamed out, but I couldn't tell. I couldn't hear anything. Barry was looking down on me as I laid on the ground, staring up at him. He was saying something, but I could never read lips well. He picked me up and sped away just as he darkness engulfed me.
"Is she okay?" I heard someone ask.
"You just asked literally a minute ago, Cisco. She had no pulse and isn't breathing. She's probably dead!" Caitlin yelled, choking back a sob. I shot up, my green eyes wide. They all yelled in sync and jumped back a little.
"What the hell?" Cisco yelled. I looked to him.
"Told you," I grumbled. He smiled and threw his arms around me. "Oomf," I said. Cisco basically attacked me. He planted a kiss on my lips before pulling away.
"Thank god you were okay. You had no pulse!" He smacked my arm. "You scared the living hell out of me, Kaylin," he whispered. I hugged him back.
"Sorry," I mumbled. Caitlin and Barry exchanged confused glances. I met Dr. Wells' stare.
"Can I talk to Kaylin alone please?" Wells asked. They all nodded and walked out of the room. I gave Cisco one last smile before the doors to the cortex closed. I hopped off of the bed and pulled on my leather jacket. "How are you able to move like that after getting shot?" he questioned. I laughed.
"I have a feeling you already know the answer to that, Thawne," I hissed. He nodded.
"So you do know. I knew you weren't a germaphobe. What exactly are you doing here in this time, Ms. Dark? Because I know it wasn't to see your husband," he told me. I shrugged and started pacing around the cortex.
"I mean you should know the answer to that. Although there's a chance I don't even have a husband anymore. I've screwed with the fabric of time so badly by telling Cisco, that there's that 50% chance I'm not married to that man anymore. And it's all your fault. Tell me, Dr. Wells, do you even feel sorry for me? For my husband? For my kids?" I asked. He shook his head.
"Kaylin, you know that you've always been a daughter to me. That you are a daughter to me. And I'm glad I've finally got to see you again. That was my biggest fear: not ever seeing you again." He was standing now. He went for a hug, but I flinched away.
"No! You've never cared about me! My original mission was to come back and change you no matter what the cost! To make you a better person for me!" I yelled. I took a deep breath. "But I should've known that even the one that loves you the most couldn't change for you. But instead of coming back to when you first traveled here to hurt Barry, to kill him, I traveled to where I was 13 and in foster care. I failed my mission. Now I've created a new one: to end you," I said calmly. His eyes widened.
"Kaylin, you do realize that if you do that you'll-"
"Die? I know. And it's a sacrifice I'm willing to make. That's why I was hoping you weren't him. That you were actually Harrison Wells. But I was wrong. And I'm sorry, but I'm not the girl I used to be. She's so gone. And there's no bringing her back," I told him before starting to walk out. I stopped when he called my name.
"Kaylin, how do you have those abilities?"
"The not dying was from the Particle Accelerator. The other one is from an experiment that I had to undergo when I agreed to this mission. The mission to get my father back. I guess it was a waste. Bye." I walked out of the Cortex without another word, pushing past Cisco. He didn't even bother to try and stop me, knowing that I just needed to be alone. I took a deep breath to fight the tears. I will not cry. I will not cry. I will not cry. But no matter how many times I told myself not to cry, I still did. I think the last time I cried was when I found out what he was actually doing. When Barry follow him back to kill him. I walked down the streets of Central City, letting the rain pour down on me. A car honked its horn multiple times before I turned to see who it was. Eddie rolled down his window.
"Get in, Kaylin," he told me. I gave him a small smile and nodded, climbing in the back.
"What's going on, Kid? Why are you crying?" Joe questioned, looking at me in the rearview mirror. I wanted to laugh and tell him that I was way older than him, but refrained from it.
"Family issues. I just learned something about my father. Something that I was hoping wasn't true. But the universe likes to screw with me and my life. Guess that's how it works," I replied. They both nodded and Eddie turned around to look at me.
"Who's your dad?" I glared at him. "Right. Need-to-know basis. Sorry." I gave him a small smile before looking back out the window.
They dropped me off at CCU and drove away after making sure I got in the building. "Kaylin?" Izzie asked as I walked in the dorm room. "Oh thank god. You're okay!" She threw her arms around me, but I just stood there. She pulled away and studied me. "What's wrong?" I sniffled, letting a few tears escape. "Please tell me you're not pregnant," she said. I found myself laughing, getting her to smile again.
"I thought I could change him, Izabella. I thought that when he found out who I really am that he would go the other way. But he didn't," I whispered. She frowned.
"But that doesn't matter. Kill him or let him live, it won't affect you." I gave her a confused expression.
"But we're related directly. If he dies, I die," I replied. She motioned for me to sit down and I did. She sat down next to me.
"Kaylin, there's something I need to tell you."
