Chapter 18

I awoke from the darkness in a haze, feeling pain all over me. I could feel the depth of the scratches grazing down my back.. I remember the tears in my skin as I was dragged down the bark of the tree.
Liam.. What the hell is going on?!
When I eventually opened my eyes, I took in my surroundings.
Dark blue walls which made the room look smaller but it actually wasn't, there were medals and trophies along one wall, and on the wall opposite the door was this amazing view, as if you're on the highest mountain looking over the world. The tree's the sunset and other mountains, with clouds and fog misting over it..
I want that picture.
As I was stirring, I felt something grab my hand. I looked over to my right, and saw Dan asleep holding my hand by his face.
Dan looked like hell.. As if he hadn't slept properly in days! But there was still this thing to him, he still glowed to me. Dan still looked absolutely gorgeous to me..
I wonder what happened to me. Even though Dan's asleep, he still looks petrified..
"Dan?" I whispered as I nudged his hand.
There was no response, Urghh, I don't want to wake him. He looks so tired..
Knowing what I should do, I slid my legs off the bed which seemed to be Dan's I think?
I slowly released my hand from Dan's grip. After releasing my hand, I stood still for a minute to make sure that he wouldn't wake up.
He didn't. Holding my breath I tip-toed towards the door and twisted the knob slowly, once I heard the click, I pulled on the door and opened it, tip-toeing all the way out the door.
Once outside I slowly pulled the door shut, and started to breathe again. Feeling the nerve to do a victory dance as I successfully left the room without waking Dan up I suddenly heard a low chuckle.
I jumped in shock and turned around and there I saw Dan's father.
"You look like you've just left Dan in there asleep" Alex laughed.
Smiling at my doziness, I grinned "Yeah.. What happened?" I asked.
"Well let's just say, it was a very stupid thing to do.. To run out in the middle of the woods? Crazy. I like you for that" Alex smiled and slowly walked over to me.
"I guess, I was just over-whelmed.. I mean, what would you do? If you suddenly found out something like that.. It's crazy! It's just so unrealistic" I laughed.
"Well, I guess having to take in something like this is hard, but at least you knew you were safe here. It's not safe in those woods my dear" Alex explained in a serious tone.
"I know, it was stupid" I sighed and stared down at my feet.
Suddenly I felt hands on my shoulders. Alex come closer and lifted my chin with his hands so that I looked at him.
"My dear Sara, please don't worry. I know who you are to my son, even though he hasn't explained anything yet, I promise to you that no harm will come. To you or my son" Alex smiled and pulled me into a hug.
For the first time ever, I actually felt cared for, never have I felt so safe in anyone's arms other than Dan's, they both have that aura around them. I hate not knowing what it is. My father never cuddled me, never reassured me of anything. He was never there.
