The morning after what seemed to be a wild dream about alien princesses and other habitable worlds, Hitoshi woke up to the sound of a harsh ringing and pained groans.
He got up from the floor and saw on his bed a female creature covering her long pointed ears with her hands.
"Make this horrendous sound stop..." moaned the girl.
"Eh...?" was the boy's bewildered response.
It turns out last night was not a dream. He remembered. He rescued this alien girl from her crashed spacecraft on his backyard, and her name was Maina, Crown Princess of Ardonia.
"Do not just stand there, you fool!" she exclaimed. "Make this abhorrent noise stop!"
"W-What noise?" asked Hitoshi, looking around for the source of whatever was paining Maina.
He looked at the drawer beside his bed and realized it was his alarm clock making the ringing sound. It seemed Maina's huge ears were very sensitive.
"Ah, sorry," said Hitoshi, smiling wryly as he proceeded to turn off the alarm.
Maina sighed in relief as she uncovered her ears.
"Thank Harthon," she said. "What sort of device is that anyway?"
"Well, it's an alarm clock," replied Hitoshi. "It helps people get up early in the morning."
"Do you not have servants to do that for you?" said Maina.
"W-Well, no," said Hitoshi, scratching his head. "I'm on my own right now."
"Hmph, how primitive," said Maina as she sat on his bed, crossing her arms.
Hitoshi just smiled dryly.
"Wait, why do you need to wake up early?" asked Maina.
"Well, I have school today," replied Hitoshi plainly.
"School?" said Maina curiously. "What is that?"
"Well, it's a place where we go to learn," said Hitoshi. "You don't have school in Gliese-- Ardonia?"
"No, we do not," said Maina. "We have private tutors for that."
"I see," said Hitoshi. "Well I have to go prepare for school."
At that moment a soft growl emanated from Maina's stomach. Hitoshi looked at her curiously.
"I-I am hungry, human," said the Ardonian princess. "Are there wild beasts outside I could hunt for meat?"
"Eh? N-No," replied Hitoshi with an awkward smile. "We don't hunt for our food, we buy it and store it for later."
"Eh? Then..." said Maina, before pointing her finger like a sword at him,"go make me something to eat, peasant."
Hitoshi of course was surprised, but understood her since she was a princess in her world and was used to having everything handed to her on a silver platter.
"A-Alright," he answered with a wry smile.
Moments later, Maina was downstairs waiting on the dinner table for her breakfast.
She still wore her sandy-colored overcoat over her black midriff shirt and shorts from last night. There were no clothes Hitoshi could give her that were her size.
Hitoshi meanwhile was wearing his school uniform, a black gakuran, as he cooked this morning's breakfast. He also wore an apron over the uniform.
He still had no idea what to do with his new housemate. He had always wanted to encounter extraterrestrial life, but this beautiful creature was more than he bargained for. He did not expect to have to care for her.
