who's to say

Dogs, cats, mice, birds, otters

Innocence, friendliness, shyness, loving, curious

Abuse, starvation, poison, deforestation, pollution

Who gave you the right

To take away the good

And replace it with the bad

Is it satisfying to see?

The death, the pain in their eyes?

There may be pain, but that trust, it never leaves them.

The dog will come to you

Tail between its legs, yes, but it will still come

People are the same way

If we don't teach right and wrong

Who's to say what those words mean to you?

What if we showed the difference

Between a respected dog

And an abused one

You can see the obvious

The cuts, the scars, the sadness

But what's on the inside?

Humans know how to fake a smile

Dogs, cats, mice, birds, otters

Do not

Let's not make them learn how

Who's to say what that would mean

Who's to say what that would do to us

Would it make you less likely to litter?

Less likely to pollute?

What about chopping down trees?

Would you stop if the birds could speak?

If the dogs could cry?

If the otters could show us that they were choking?

If the mice could whisper "goodbye?"

Who's to say?

It's up to you...
