If I could visit 6 year me
I would scoop her up
Gently tug her pigtails
Give her a kiss on her rosy apple cheeks
I'd tell her that she was so brave
Little sisters are a pain
But we love her, huh, suzanne?
She's pretty cute for her cries
Kindergarten's really fun
Ms. Fink is the best
Next year will be great too
Second grade'll suck
But don't think about that, kiddo
Think about barbies and stuffed dragons named Alex
Then my voice would drop and turn low
"You know at night?"
She'd nod her hair filled little head and frown
"That's not right"
She'd be confused, no doubt 'bout that
I didn't find it wrong
Just natural nightly normality
Nothing to think odd
But there was
As I'd set her down I'd whisper
"Please tell mom"
"You don't deserve it, little me"
"Don't ever think you do"
"I love you"
"I hope you love you too"
