So it turns out that Victoria, Kaitlyn, and Conor have been living in that town their whole life. They were all together when the zombies attacked. Victoria said that they have just been moving around different buildings in the town for the whole time. She said that sometimes zombies don’t even attack, they just get bored and moved. I envy them for their ease of motion. They say that they have slowly accumulated food over a period of time, and their little market in the center of town wasn’t raided the last time they checked, but they didn’t want to stay there in case that attracted zombies, and then their food would be lost forever… smart.
We tell them all about us and how we move and our whole story. I know that we probably looked stupid, but Danni actually started crying when we talked about Margret. I got choked up but I didn’t cry.
Cooper then tells his own story. It’s surprising to hear how he moved and lived before. Supposedly he was out camping with his friends when the zombies attacked. His friends were stupid and laughed and thought that they were people dressed up in costumes. To put it too the short, they didn’t last long. Cooper came to his smarts and ran away. He was pretty fast from being on the track team since middle school, but he wasn’t good with long distance. He ran until he couldn’t any more and then started clinging to groups of zombies, trying to kind of look like them. He said that for as long as he can remember he was sticking to groups and packs of zombies and eating the brains and intestines of animals. He said that he would have refused to eat human parts if he ever came across some, which he never did. I realize that he probably knows a lot more about the movements and thoughts of zombies than all of us combined.
Then we all ask questions. Conor seems to be the silent type and we all try to get him to talk but It’s almost useless. He probably says a total five words the whole time we talk. Kaitlyn is quite the talkative one, as am I. Victoria and Danni seem to get along pretty well, haha I guess it’s leader’s bond or something. Cooper says some stuff, but not much. I keep catching him steeling glances at me and it’s kinda unnerving, but I like it. It is the first time he has payed real attention to me.
I also notice Conor looking at Danni, but I ignore it. He might just be checking on her leg. But anyways, as proven before, Danni’s heart belongs only to John.
Conor does examine my nose from when Margret punched it what seems like a lifetime ago. He says it should be fine. It doesn’t really hurt anymore… so I guess that’s good.
We woke Danni up before we started talking. She seems groggy and keeps wincing in what I’m figuring is pain. I feel bad and I want to hug her… but I feel like that would be awkward.
Victoria gives us a sorta tour of the library. She says not to get too comfortable cause we might be moving soon. The way she says “we” comforts me. I guess that we are all a team now. But the “we” also kinda kills me inside. I feel like our little trio… or what used to be the four of us… is now broken. No more of just us against the world. It breaks some part of me, but I don’t know what that part is.
I like Kaitlyn the most out of everybody. She is spunky and funny. Her hair, unlike mine, is nice and combed. I probably look like I was just pulled out of a mud bath.
Turns out that they have working pipes. How that happened, I don’t really know. They have what seems to have done something with the sinks so it makes three bath tub like things. Danni, Cooper, and I all take a “bath.” It feels so good and the snarls take forever to come out of my hair and it hurts like hell. But when I come out, I’m still in those nasty overalls cause they don’t have anything else, but I feel so much better.
I don’t know about Danni and Cooper, but I kind of like this new life.
