EDITED.

Five days flew by in a breeze. Mum was released from the hospital and everything was finally back to normal, at least for a while and I am thankful. I had stayed with her for the whole five days, and now I'm back at Tyler's place.

He had been video calling me ever since I called him that night and told him about what happened to mum. On some nights, he would come over to visit and would stay over at the hospital with me and mum because he was worried. He had urged me to go home to get some rest and that he could take my place, but I could never agree to it. Even if I was dozing off every few minutes.

But today, I can finally lift a heavy boulder off my shoulder as everything falls back in place for once.

I was sitting next to Tyler as he slung an arm around me.

"Hey, you know I heard there is this really cool carnival down the streets. Wanna go? Could help take your mind off the crazy things maybe?"

"A carnival?" I asked as my eyes lit up in that instant. "And yeah, you are right."

"Mhmmm..." he chuckled. "So are you in?"

"Hell yeah, I am! I will go get ready!" I said enthusiastically as I gave Tyler a peck on his lips.

I went up to my room and scoured through every single shirt I had and decided to settle with a simple graphic tee and some jeggings. After I am done putting on my go-to makeup which basically consists of concealer, blush and lip gloss, I grabbed my favourite denim jacket and throw it on. I put my hair up in a messy bun and gave myself one last glance in the mirror before I head out of my room.

I walked downstairs into the living room to find Tyler sprawled across the couch, clad in some America Eagle shirt and black ripped jeans.

"I'm ready," I said as I let a smile fall on my face. I watched as he turned around to face me. Once his eyes landed on mine, his face lit up immediately as a bright smile crept onto his lips.

"Come on, let's go!" Tyler exclaimed as he interlaced his hands with mine and he pulled me towards the car while I let out a small laugh. And suddenly, all my worries about mum were forgotten.

Loud and upbeat music was blasting and everyone was in high spirits. Sound of laughter reached me and everyone seemed to be enjoying themselves in every little way they could. Booths were set up along the paths and the bright colourful lights lit up the entire place. A cool breeze ruffled my messy hair as I breathed in the smell of the sweet, sweet candy floss.

"Hey, can we get some candy floss?" I asked Tyler as I tugged on his arm.

"You read my mind," I chuckled as we clung arms and walked towards the booth selling the candy floss. I got a purple one and Tyler got a blue one.

"Wanna go on a Ferris wheel?" Tyler asked out of the blue as I was busy eating my candy floss.

"I would love to but..." I trailed off, my eyes nervously averting to look at everywhere else but his eyes.

"But?" Tyler probed as he looked at me intently.

"Don't tell anyone this, but let's just say that I have a bad memory with the Ferris wheel," I mumbled as I kept my eyes downcast as the flashback from the last Ferris wheel ride popped into my head without a warning.

"It's okay Al," his hand reached to under my chin and tilted my head up slightly so that our eyes meet. He gave me a charming smile as he tucked a lock of stray hair behind my ear. "Today, we shall create a good one," he added genuinely.

"I don't know about it..."

"Come on," he urged. "Just for me?" I watched as Tyler's eyes twinkled with hope and a dash of excitement.
