EDITED.
Tyler's POV
Alexandra had barely spoken to me over the past few days. I'm starting to think that she had forgotten about me or that I'm just not as important to her anymore.
Every time I call her, she would give me short replies or tell me that she is busy.
I trust her but I feel that our relationship is not going anywhere.
She kept pushing me aside and I felt that she became more distant from me and became colder.
It was like as if time rewind back to the time when I was in the hospital with Alexandra when she treated me like a total stranger.
I never liked that and I don't want to lose her again. I don't think I can live a day without her. I can never imagine a life without her.
The buzz of my phone jolted me back to reality.
From: Chris
Happy birthday buddy! :) Have a blast!
From: Dylan
Happy Birthday, Tyler! Enjoy your day! :D Meet for dinner?
My lips naturally twitched upwards into a small smile as I scrolled through all the birthday messages.
As I reached the end, my smile turned into a frown when I didn't see any messages from Alexandra. To say I was hurt is an understatement. I can't help but wonder if maybe she had forgotten about my birthday.
Or maybe she was just busy with her college life, I thought so as to comfort myself.
To distract myself, I started scrolling through Instagram. What I did not expect is to see that Alexandra posted a photo of a guy with ginger red hair who was smiling at the camera cheekily with his tongue stuck out.
"Froyo with Calum," I read off her caption and unknowingly glared at the picture in front of me. "What's that winky face for? Who the hell is this Calum guy?" I asked angrily even though no one can hear me.
Before I know it, my fist connected with the wall behind me as jealousy got the best of me.
A mixture of anger and hurt swirled within me as I thought of Alexandra's instagram photo and how she did not wish me a happy birthday yet.
Could she be...
"No! Alexandra is my girlfriend. I have to trust her," I mumbled as I ran a hand through my hair and buried my face in my hands as I slid down the wall. A million thoughts were running through my mind at that moment.
Later, I decided to whip out my phone from my back pocket and call Alexandra.
At that point in time, I was not sure of my purpose of calling her. Maybe I just wanted to hear her voice or maybe because I just miss her so much.
It's the sixth ring and Alexandra had not yet picked up her phone and it went straight to voice mail. "Hello, it's Alexandra. I'm probably busy sleeping or something like that," her voice spoke with a small chuckle. "Leave your name and I will call you back soon!"
"Hey Al! It's Tyler. Please call back soon. I miss you," I said and hung up.
To: Dylan
Thanks, mate. I don't think I'm up for dinner.
To: Dylan
I'm fine, just busy, sorry dude.
45 minutes had past and I still hear nothing from Alexandra but I continued waiting as I stared at my phone.
Knock.
Knock.
Knock.
"Come in," I said with a sigh.
"Tyler?" I turned around to see mum standing by the door with a concern expression plastered across her face. "Are you alright?"
"Yeah. I'm fine mum," I lied as I avoided eye contact.
"Tyler... I know something is up. Tell me."
I hesitated for a moment before speaking.
"It's about Alexandra. I didn't receive any message or any call from her and today is my birthday. Do you think she forgot?"
"Tyler..." Mum trailed off as she placed one hand on my knee. "Maybe she is just busy with her college life. You went to college, you should know how stressful and busy college can get," mum said with a small smile.
"Yeah. You are right mum."
"It's your birthday Tyler. Go out and celebrate! Have fun!" Mum urged as she gave me a smile.
"Yeah. I will. Thanks, mum," I said as I gave her a small kiss on her cheek before heading out.
My phone rang all of sudden, making me jumped a little.
I quickly answer the call in hope that it was Alexandra that called.
"Hey, buddy!" A male voice filtered through the phone and reached me. "Happy birthday dude!"
"Dylan?" I asked as disappointment shone through my voice.
"Tyler. Are you that disappointed that I called you? No 'thank you, you are such a great friend'?" Dylan said as he feigned hurt.
"Thank you, you are such a great friend," I deadpanned.
"Wow. You are welcome," Dylan responded sarcastically.
"I'm sorry dude. Just not my best day."
"Come on! It's your birthday! Cheer up, buddy!" Dylan advised. "Whatever that is bothering you, put it aside alright? Meet us at the usual place for dinner?" He asked.
"Yeah sure. Thanks, bud," I said with a small smile even though he can't see me right then.
Way better than having ice cream alone.
I went up to my room and changed into a black graphic tee from American Eagle and some white khaki pants that stops right above the knee. As I walked down the stairs, the sound of the doorbell reverberated throughout the house.
"Tyler, could you get the door for me?" Mum asked from her room, I figured.
"Yeah sure."
I jogged to the door and push open the door to reveal a familiar girl with a smirk plastered across her face.
The same dark hair, the same beautiful emerald green eyes.
That familiar smirk.
"Hey, Tyler. Didn't think I forgot your birthday, did you?"
The end.
