EDITED.

"Alexandra, Alexandra!" I heard an unfamiliar voice reached my ears, waking me up from my reverie.

"Huh? What happened?" I asked as I turned around to look into a pair of familiar blue eyes.

"Class ended silly," the voice teased as he smacked my head playfully.

"Calum!" I protested as I smacked his arm away and glared at him playfully. He raised an eyebrow at me and all of a sudden, he grabbed onto my wrist and pulled me out of class.

"Calum! What are you doing?"

"We need to talk," he said simply as he gave me a serious look.

"What do we have to talk about? I literally just met you yesterday," I said as I quirked an eyebrow at him.

"That's the thing. Although we only met yesterday, I regard you as my friend Alexandra," Calum said as he looked me in my eyes and gave me a sincere smile.

"Afterall, you are the first and only friend I made in Yale so far," I responded with a small smile.

"Great. Since we are friends, would you mind telling me if there is something wrong?" He asked, his voice laced with worry and concern.

"Something wrong? Nothing. Everything is fine," I lied, forcing a smile that didn't quite reach my eyes.

"Come on Alexandra. I know there is something wrong. But I mean if you feel uncomfortable sharing then I will back off alright?"

"Calum, I just didn't want to burden you with my problems. You have many other things to worry about in College."

"What are friends for?"

"To be there for each other when in need," I mumbled.

"Exactly. So why won't you let me be there for you?"

"Calum... I'm really sorry. I just don't know how or where to start," I mumbled as I kept my eyes down casted.

"Alexandra, do not apologise. It's not your fault. If you are ready to tell me then go ahead. If you are not, it's perfectly fine," he said with a genuine smile. "I will see you tomorrow." And just as he was about to walk away, I called out to him.

"Calum! Wait!"

I watched as he turned around, a smile plastered across his face as his eyes landed on mine.

"You ready now?"

"Yeah. I am."

"Alright. I'm here."

"Okay," I said as I took in a deep breath. "I just really really miss my family and my boyfriend a lot. I can't go a day without thinking about them. They are 200 miles away from me. Although I see them on a computer screen every day, it's not enough for me. I need their presence. I guess I'm just homesick." Once I finished saying what I have been bottling up for days, tears were already forming at the brim of my eyes. "I really miss them a lot, Calum."

Before I know it, tears were rolling down my cheeks uncontrollably.

"Hey, hey. Alexandra, don't cry. I have literally no idea what to do," he said as he scratched the back of his neck.

"Calum.. I..."

Suddenly, I felt a pair of arms wrapped around me, making me calm down almost instantly. I buried my face in his chest. Tears stained his shirt as I continued sobbing quietly while he rubbed my back soothingly.

"I'm not very good with this kind of things but I shall give it a try," Calum admitted.

Although I literally just met this guy yesterday, at that very moment it felt as if I had known him for years.

"When I first came to Yale, I missed my family a lot. They are over 2000 miles away from me Alexandra. But I'm thankful that I'm able to call or Skype them whenever I can. Maybe you should appreciate all these instead, you know?" Calum advised as he placed a hand on my shoulder for reassurance once he pulled away from the hug.

"Yeah, you are right Calum. I should be happy that I'm already fortunate enough to communicate with them," I spoke with sudden realisation as I wiped my tears away. "And I'm sorry for staining your shirt," I said with a sheepish smile.

"Nah. It's fine Alexandra," Calum assured with a smile. "Brunch?" He asked all of a sudden.

"Yeah. Of course," I said as I let a smile graced my lips.

"Yale has the greatest sandwiches," Calum spoke with his mouth full of food.

"Eww, Calum. Please finish your food before talking," I said as I shook my head in mock disapproval.

"Is this how you talk to your friend?"

"Well, pretty much. Don't be disappointed if I don't get you anything for Christmas," I teased with a playful wink.

"Wow, that is indeed disappointing," he said with a laugh before we lapsed into a comfortable silence.

"So..." Calum trailed off. "How is life in Yale so far?"

"Well, it's actually pretty good. Lectures here are not as boring as I thought it would be. There are many cool projects to do. Is it weird that I enjoy doing projects?"

"No, not at all. In fact, I love doing projects do. I feel this sense of accomplishment after perfecting it."

"Really? I totally feel that way too!"

"No way!"

"Yes way!" I said with a chuckle.

"Speaking of projects, what are we suppose to do for our Sociology project?" Calum asked as he raised an eyebrow at me.

"I have no idea. I thought you said you know what to do?"

"I was just joking," he said with a laugh.

"Joking? Man, we are goners."
