TW/ ABUSE, SEXUAL HARASSMENT, SELF HARM, MENTAL ILLNESSES.
wattpad stories these days romanticize everything. It's so fūcking annoying tbh. I will be talking about the main concepts.
1) ABUSE IS NOT CUTE IN A RELATIONSHIP. ABUSE IS A REAL THING PEOPLE SUFFER FROM. THE CHARACTERS IN SOME STORIES ARE EXPECTed TO FORGIVE THE ABUSER BC THEY'RE IN A RELATIONSHIP. what ?? YOU CAN'T JUST FORGIVE SOMEONE FOR ABUSING SOMEONE ELSE LIKE THAG. People die from abuse, it's serious.
2) MENTAL ILLNESSES AND STIGMAS ARE NOT FŪCKING TENDY. DEPRESSION, ANXIETY, OCD, ADHD, AND OTHER MENTAL ILLNESSES ARE NOT CUTE. THEY ARE THINGS THAT STIGMATIZES PEOPLE EVERYDAY, PEOPLE SUFFER FROM ILLNESSES EVERYDAY. THEY AREN'T FOR THE SAKE OF LOOKING COOL.
3) SELF-HARM IS NOT FOR LOOKING CUTE. IF YOU THINK CUTTING, BURNING, HAIR-PULLING, HITTING YOURSELF (purposefully), AND SCRATCHING IS GONNA MAKE YOURSELF LOOK "TUMBLR" THEN FŪCK OUT OF HERE. ALSO, THEY AREN'T FOR AESTHETICS.
4) Anther thing about Wattpad is the romanticization of rāpe and sexual harassment. In one story I read the main character is manipulated by her partner into sex and the authors makes it look okay ??? the character said "no" so many times yet her partner still manipulated her into confusedly saying yes ? here's a little lesson on consent:
CONSENT IS EXCITEDLY, WHOLE-HEARTEDLY, HEAD-SHAKING WHILE SAYING "YES!" AND NOT HAVING A SECOND THOUGHT ABOUT IT. IF YOUR PARTNER SAYS NO, DELAYS THEIR ANSWER, OR LOOKS UNSURE DO NOT CONVINCE THEM. IT IS THEIR CHOICE ON WHETHER OR NOT THEY WANT TO HAVE SĒX.
There is absolutely no reason to romanticize rāpe and sexual harassment. At all.
I think that's all for my rant today. I was feeling pretty angry about this.
