Chapter 21

If silence is golden, I should get a fucking medal.

"Violet Pierce, we've given you a warning and you are already causing trouble..."

I expected a punishment more dramatic than this.

"You're father will be coming to pick you up...."

Something more BAM in your face. I scratched my left arm, tired out of a sudden. I surreptitiously glanced around the principal office when Ms Jones left the office. The place never changed with the off white walls and the black furniture. I was sitting on the most uncomfortable seat in my whole life, I felt the need to scratch my butt. My mind switched to Gavin and my heart dwelled suddenly.

Was he okay?

I decided I should not bother about it. Gavin was strong enough to defend himself on his own, he didn't need another person to protect him, yet there was a painful tug in my heart. Something weird is going on. Just then, Ms Jones came into the room, informing I was to go home. She passed me a piece of paper and left me again in the office.

I scanned for pens but couldn't find any. Frustrated, I grabbed the pen in my pocket. I wondered where I got it from but couldn't remember. Quickly, I signed my signature at the bottom. Then I realised something written on the pen. Curious, I looked closer.

The door opened too fast before I had the chance to read the pen. I don't know why but I immediately hid it in my pocket.

"Ms Pierce, your father is here," Ms Jones announced. She slammed the door behind her and I had to follow suit. Slinging my bag, I walked out of the office, with the pen in my pocket, only to realise Jace was sitting outside, waiting for his turn to come in. Fredrick was beside him so that Jace would not run away.

I wanted to call after him, to look me in the eyes. I wanted to know what he's thinking and what he's feeling, whether or not what I said had gotten to his head. He didn't bother looking up, either he didn't want to see or he didn't even notice my presence. I couldn't get to him since Fredrick was glaring me down.

"Hey forest eyes!" I said in a high pitch tone that made Jace immediately snap his head towards me. I used to call him that year's ago, the first few months I hated him. His eyes widened at what I said, but gradually changed to an emotion I was hoping for.

Regret.

The school bell rang, indicating the end of school. Students rushed out like bees put of their hives and glanced at my direction, as well as Jace's. It didn't help that Ms Jones was walking right in front of me as we walk to my father. I glared at a group of juniors already gossiping about me as their made obvious glances towards my direction. Then I saw a familiar face.

The same short brunette that was looking at me during classes and gave me the pen was looking at me attentively. I couldnt read the expression in her eyes, whig irked me to no end. For a moment, I had noticed a message she was trying to give me, her movements almost as if telling me something she shouldn't.

I rose my brows at her and decided to look away, until she grabbed her pencil case and brought her pen. She pointed to the pen and then to me. I was confused at first, and then it struck me.

My heart started beating erratically against my chest and the girl gave a small smile when she noticed the realization plastered on my face. Before we could exchange any more messages, I was out of the school and spotted the familiar car I've seen for almost my whole life. Out came out my father, calm and collected but from the look of his eyes he was furious.

Ms Jones left me there to be, to talk to my father. I had the itch to run in the other direction but I held my ground. However, there was a bad feeling in my stomach.

"I expect better behaviour from you, Violet," Ms Jones interjected after she talked to father. She then strutted back to the school in her boring grey suit, leaving me and my father alone.

"Get in the car," my father said in a authoritative but tensed tone.

A deep feeling plunged into my stomach and I couldn't resist thinking of what could happen if we were to come home. However, I didn't do that. I had to act properly this time. No rash acts.

And I was right. Right when we reached home, father left-not forgetting to lock the door-leaving me with the whole house.

I locked myself in my room and went under the bed-due to the camera I found in my room. Carefully, I took out the same pen out of my pocket and read the exact same print I saw in the principal's office. I had to squint to read it because of the dark. Well done Violet, hiding at a place you can't see. I let out a chuckle, realizing I've done this before during Sasha's party.

My mind reverted back when I could finally see the imprint. It was written in markers, which meant that the print did not come from the company.

There were eight letters, no it was numbers. Eight numbers. My eyes widened.

It was someone's phone number.

My eyes scanned intricately through the pen for any more clues but didn't find any. Except for one thing. The pen I was holding was colored light blue. If I'm sure, I've never bought light blue pens or own anything in that color range. I love my writings to be pitch black. It makes it professional.

Which meant that this was not mere coincidence or a prank on someone. This was real and I had a feeling it would lead me back to Gavin, the only person I want to be with right now. Or it may turn me to the other direction and I'll be doomed forever.

I sighed, with only one question in mind.

Should I call?
