Husbands Over Flowers

Chapter 9

"Ah, its finally getting cold outside." Jae Ri said to herself, looking out her window. Crossing the room to her closet, she dressed in jeans and a knit sweater her eomma had made for her. Suitably dressed, she went downstairs, thinking perhaps Jan Di would watch a drama with her.

"Jan Di?" She called.
"Yes Jae Ri?" She replied, walking out of her and Jun Pyo's room fully dressed.
"Oh, what are you all dressed up for?" Jae Ri asked, trying to keep her disappointment from creeping into her voice.
"One of Jun Pyo's relatives are throwing a dinner party, to commemorate the beginning of the holidays." Jan Di said, smoothing her dress; "Did you need something?"
"Oh I was just going to ask if you wanted to watch a drama with me." Jae Ri said.
"Ah, I'm sorry Jae Ri. Raincheck?" She said, shouldering her bag and walking to the foyer to meet Jun Pyo.
"Definitely. And by the way, Jan Di?"
"Yes?" She said, on her way out the door.
"...Where do you keep the Christmas decorations?"

About half an hour later, Jae Ri unearthed the Christmas decorations. With help from the servants, she brought them up to the living room and rested, winded by lugging the heavy boxes. Standing, she felt arms wrap around her from behind and she turned, smiling, straight into a kiss.

"Hello Jagi." Jihoo said as they pulled apart.
"What are you doing here?" She said, smiling up at him.
"Jan Di called to say you were planning to start decorating for Christmas, and that you might need a hand." Jihoo said, stepping back and rubbing his hands together; "Lets get started."

Two hours later, they had the banisters wrapped in lights, wreaths hung in every window, and the tree set up and ready to decorate.
"You want to take a break and bake some cookies?" Jae Ri asked Jihoo.
"Of course. Can we make some real food as well?"
"Sure! What would you like?" Jae Ri asked, smiling at him. Jihoo pretended to ponder it a moment, then said;
"...Pancakes?"
"Pancakes aren't real food silly! But I will make them for you." Jae Ri said, kissing his cheek and skipping off to the kitchen.
First she made Jihoo a good size stack of pancakes, and then started on the cookies.
"What kind of cookies should I make, Jihoo-oppa?" Jae Ri asked, putting her arms around his neck.
"Well, as its nearing Christmas, do you know how to make gingerbread cookies, Jagi?" He said, poking her cheek.
"Ooh yes! We can have gingerbread men! Aish, we don't have all the ingredients..." She said, checking the cupboard.
"Well come on then." Jihoo said, grabbing her wrist; "My car is out front, we'll run to the supermarket."

"Okay that's ginger....butter...flour...and molasses. We have the rest at home." Jae Ri said, taking the last item off the shelf and putting it in her basket. Jihoo and Jae Ri had attracted some looks from passers by. One older woman came up to Jae Ri while Jihoo was looking at something and said;
"Oh my, he is handsome. Is he your husband?"
"O-Oh no, he's my....he's my boyfriend." Jae Ri stuttered, blushing.
"I always said, if a man is humble enough to go with his woman to the market, he's a keeper. Hold on to that one." She said, walking off.
"Everything alright?" Jihoo asked, walking up holding a scented candle he had been smelling.
"Yes... I've got everything I need. Did you find something you like?" She said, laughing at the candle.
"Hey don't knock it till you've tried it! Here, smell it." He said, handing it to her.
"....Is that...Hot Chocolate scented?"
"Yes! Isn't it amazing?" Jihoo asked, smiling widely.
"Its the best candle I've ever smelled!" She replied, laughing.
"Hold on!" Jihoo said, ducking down an isle. He returned with another candle; "Now we can have couple candles!"
"Oh come on, silly! We need to get back so I can make these cookies." Jae Ri said, pulling him towards the register; "By the way, Jihoo.... Thank you." She said, standing on tiptoes to kiss his cheek.

"There, the tree is done. Just need to put the star on top..." Jae Ri said, stepping up on the step ladder and reaching for the top of the tree. Jihoo put his hands on either side of her waist, holding her steady. When she had placed it, he picked her up off the step ladder and held her bridal style.
"W-what are you doing?!" Jae Ri asked anxiously. Jihoo carried her over to the couch and laid her on it, hovering over her. He fished something from his pocket and held it over her face.
"Mistletoe." He said, grinning triumphantly.
"Oh you little-" She was cut off by him kissing her, long and sweet. When he pulled away they were both gasping for air.
"Jihoo-oppa...."
"Yes?"
"I really do love you." She whispered. He kissed her, and then got up and sat beside her, pulling her into a sitting position.
"I love you too, but any longer in that position and I might not be able to restrain myself." Jihoo said. Jae Ri blushes at the implications of his words, but brushed it off.
"What would you like to do now?" She asked.
"What were you planning to do if I hadn't come?" He countered.
"Probably just watch a drama..." She said, blushing slightly.
"Well then, lets do that." He said, smiling at her.

They were still curled up asleep when Jan Di and Jun Pyo arrived home. Jan Di covered them in warm blankets and Jun Pyo turned off the TV. They looked at them for a moment, reminiscing about their early days as a couple.
"Oh Yeobo, do you remember the first time we fell asleep on the couch together?"
"Of course I do. You were crying over some sappy movie and didn't want me to leave." Jun Pyo laughed. Jan Di smacked his arm and went upstairs to bed, him following closely behind.
