When it's arranged...

Chapter 4

"What was that all about?" Jake asked the second we got away from table 7

"I was talking to myself, I really didn't mean to say it out loud, I am screwed aren't i?"

All Jake did to answer my question was nod his head in agreement.
I looked back at table 7 and saw Christopher's date going on as if the worst thing ever has just happened to her.

"I really didn't mean to do that" I said as i slowly turned my head back to Jake

"I know you didn't, but I'm going to have to take that table from you"

This time it was my turn to shut up and nod in agreement.

The rest of the night went along slowly, my manager didn't do anything about the problem which was a huge relief, Jake took over table 7 and the woman left about an hour before my shift was over but Christopher still stayed there I would be lying if I said that I don't find him attractive or that i don't secretly want him to ask me on a date but that will never happen, in his eyes he's just a client and I'm just a waitress.
When i got home I got a call from my mom.

"Hey mom, thank you for the dress" I said politely

"Yes, hello Kate i have something important to discuss with you" she said ignoring me like always

"I'm all ears mom" I sat down on my couch and waited for her to continue

"You aren't busy are you? Because if you are then stop whatever it is you are doing and listen to me" most people would say -because if you are i can always call back later but not Meredith Isles, no she believes that the world revolves around her

"As I said, I'm all ears"

"Great, Kate I know that saying our relationship was a wreck over the years is an understatement" oh that couldn't be more true, I hate my parents and they aren't keen on me either "but you must've known that something was up since we flew all the way from Paris to tell you something so I'm just gonna tell you now" the moment I've been waiting for, it's probably gonna be something like how i was adopted, oh i hope so "well basically i want you to get married"

I started laughing "mom, i don't even have a boyfriend, how do you expect me to get married?"

"Oh no honey, it's an arranged marriage, you see your dad and I had already chosen the man that you are gonna marry"

"YOU BITCH! YOU KNOW YOU CAN'T DO THAT!! THIS IS MY LIFE AND MY CHOICE,TELL HIM I WON'T MARRY- " someone barged through my apartment door "hold on mom!" I said madly before turning my head to face my neighbour "can i help you?"

"Oh, sorry I thought you were in trouble 'cause I heard you screaming" my neighbour (Daniel) who is about the same age as me and I have spoken a few times and he seems like a nice guy but i never thought that he would barge into my apartment when I'm yelling

"Was i really that loud?" I said as I quickly hung up the phone and stood up

Daniel simply nodded his head"but are you ok?"

"Oh yeah, I'm sorry about that" a silence filled the room "well... would you like some coffee?" I offered

"I would love some coffee"

We sat down and spoke, I even told him what my mom said and why i was yelling. We got to know each other. I never knew this much about any of my neighbours but Daniel and I really hit it off.We spoke for about an hour until Lily walked in.

"Your mom is looking for y-" she looked up and saw Daniel "hi, I'm Lily, Kate's best friend and you are?" She held her hand out to shake

"I'm Daniel, Kate's neighbour, nice to meet you Lily."Daniel said standing up like a gentleman

"Yeah you too" Lily said right before she turned to me and her face turned serious "you hung up on your own mother? Why would you do that?" Lily has always loved my mom

"Oh she had good reason" I heard Daniel mutter under his breath

Lily looked at him and then looked back at me "good reason huh? Does that good reason involve a handsome neighbour?" She was right when she said that Daniel is handsome, he is like every girl's dream guy, tall, blonde, blue eyes , kind smile with dimples and all round gorgeous

"Most certainly not!" I looked over at Daniel "no offence"

"Non taken, listen: I should go but this was fun" Daniel said as he headed for the door

"Bye, Lily my mom wants me to marry someone"

Lily started to laugh loudly "what that's impossible, who would want to marry you"

"So Lily, I'm gonna try not to take offence and just explain- my mom is choosing who i should marry"

Lily gasped "an arranged marriage"

"Exactly"

"Oh shit no!" Lily tried to scan my face "you can't be serious! Why??"

"I have no idea, I hung up. Remember?"

"Kate" she said annoyed

"Lily" I mimicked her voice

She grabbed her phone, pressed a few buttons and haned it to me "call her" I looked down on her phone and saw my mom's number

"Oh no!"

"Oh yes" before I could argue with her she pressed the green button "talk to her"

"Lily dear? What can I help you with" I swear this woman is a better mother to my best friend than me
