Chapter 29

I woke up with a huge headache "the wedding is off" I thought of my dad's words. My dad never says anything unless he is 100% ready to go through with it, and if he fights he fights hard.

I only realised later that I'm in an unfamiliar location, I tried to take in my surroundings but it was too dark to see everything. A chair. A bed. And a silhouette.

"hello" I said scared to death that it'll be my last words.

the lights flashed on and I saw my dad sitting next to me, I almost fell off the bed I was on.

"what are you doing, dad?" fury building up inside of me. what the hell is my dad doing here after letting one of his men drag me and Luke apart.

"we need to talk" and for the first time in my life I saw something in my dad's eye, something that resembles emotion. for the first time he was sincere and soft.

"what?" I asked still mad, trying to not feel sympathetic towards him

"the wedding doesn't have to be off if you still want to get married. I think you misunderstood me, I was trying to help you, I didn't know you actually wanted this wedding." he sighed before continuing slowly "your mother and I messed up with Minette, so badly, even before we left her in Australia we were probably the worst parents anyone could ever ask for. I just don't think we were ready, you know, to have a child. especially not together. but we decided we were not going to mess up with you, not even if we had to quit our jobs, we were set on raising you properly"

"that failed" I rudely interrupted

"Kate, I'm sorry" he sighed again and then continued "we went to parenting classes and they basically said 'harshness is key' so we tried to be harsh, punish you a lot, do all the things the classes said we should. When we left Minette, my business took off and I was still trying to be the harsh dad that the classes forced onto us but it turned out rude." he breathed deeply "your mother and I love you dearly and we messed up, I only realise that now, seeing what a strong woman you've become makes me so proud, but seeing the anger you bare for both your mother and I saddens me"a tear rolled out of his eye "I'm sorry we set you up with Luke, and I'm sorry I m ruin it now, truth is- all i want is what's best for you. while you were getting dragged away by my guards I phoned your mom, and we decided to stop doing what we think is right and let you control your life for once. Kate, if you bought Albatu to spite us, by all means carry on, but don't let that same spitefulness eat you up inside."

this is the first time I've heard my dad be so sincere and I felt like I needed it. the one thing standing in my way of an honest relationship with people was the relationship with my parents.

"Luke and I already spoke, he's in the next room waiting for your answer" my dad stood up and left

"are you ready?" Lily asked as she handed me a glass of champagne

"I think I need to be drunk for this" I wiped the sweat off of my hands and tried to breath calmly

"It's not as stressful as you think it will be, I mean if you love him, showing the world is the best feeling in the world" Catherine spoke as she looked me up and down and nodded approvingly

"She's so right" Minette chimed in coming closer to embrace me

I looked at the three of them in their blue dresses that my soon to be mother in law insisted they wear. If she didn't let me change the cake and the table settings and the venue and the decor and the band and basically everything I wouldn't let her dress up my bridesmaids.

"you look gorgeous" my mother walked in along with Luke's

"how long before we go?" I asked my mom anxiously

"you'll be ok Kate, 10 minutes" she came to hug me

my heart started to race "what if this is a mistake" my breathing increased "what if he and I fight and get divorced"

they made it my choice to marry him or not, and I'm scared I'll regret it.

"I thought the same thing marrying MJ" Minette smiled "I thought he'll realise who i really am and hate me forever, but we're still so in love"

"this is the one thing you do that I approve of" Lily said making me laugh a bit, she knows me the best

I breathed deeply a few times and then heard a knock on my door "are we ready?" I hear my dad's voice

my mom opened the door, the bridesmaids all filed out meeting their groomsmen partners right outside the door. Luke's and my mom hurried out to their seats

"daddy" I hugged him after everyone left "let's run away and tell them I died" he started laughing

"Kate, you'll do great, breath deeply" he took my elbow "you look gorgeous" and that was then

the music played and one by one each of my friends with blue dresses walked in accompanied by Lukes friends.

and finally it was my turn, the doors opened and Luke was all I saw, suddenly everything had faded away, only Luke and his smile was remaining.

everything was a buzz and Luke stood infront of me, his green eyes staring deeply into mine with a beautiful smile painted accross his face.

"I now pronounce you husband and wife, you may kiss the bride"

and that kiss, the one that sealed the deal, the best one yet, that kiss was when I knew, this man truly is the man of my dreams
