Chapter 9: She is given a piece of his past

Nani POV

I pulled up to Cali's house, and pulled out my phone, sending jacob a quick text.

Me(9:55 pm): I stopped by Cali's house.

I got out and locked my door, walking up the stoned path.

Cali had a pretty house, I could tell that her parents make bank.

My phone vibrated, indicating I got a text.

Jay😋(9:57pm): aight. Call me when you get home. I'm sorry about what happened ma.

I locked my phone as Cali answered the door.

"Hey are your parents home?"

"Yeah but they're sleep"

"Is it okay for me to be over?"

"Yes. You know my parents love you Nani."

I smiled and we quietly walked upstairs to her room, but not before grabbing some snacks.

I began telling her what happened with Jacob's dad, and how rude he was. I noticed she didn't seem surprised at all.

"You and Jacob are good friends right?"

"Mhm" she nodded. "It sounds just like his dad."

"What do you mean?"

She shifted on the bed a little. "Jacob's dad, isn't very....fond of black people."

I frowned my face up.

"But his ass is black? I don't get it."

"It's a long story that isn't really my business to tell. But, he's always wanted Jacob with a white girl"

I nodded.

"When we were freshman, my mom told me about Jacob, she worked with his dad. His dad invited me over and, me and Jacob became good friends and started hanging out all the time."

It all started to click. I studied Cali, her pretty tan skin and blonde hair. Her and Jacob were probably only close because their parents tried to set them up.

But why? What's so bad about a black girl?

"Did his dad try to set you two up?"

She nodded nervously, almost as if she was scared.

"Cali im not mad" I laughed. "This was before me, and you don't like him now right?"

"Hell no"

"Okay, so there's no issue" we both laughed.

"Yeah...I think his dad caught on to the fact that me and Jacob only wanted to be friends...and he didn't like that"

"What happened?"

"Whenever I would come over, he would say rude remarks under his breath, it became very uncomfortable so I just stopped coming over."

"Wow..that's sad. I just don't get his problem with me. He literally didn't even know me for 10 minutes before he started insulting me"

"I'm sorry Nani. You're a good girlfriend to Jacob. Don't listen to anything he says."

I hugged Cali, placing another twizzler in my mouth.

"Soo" Cali laughed. "Have yall done...ya know...yet?"

"Sex, Cali?"

She nodded.

I laughed, trying to catch my breathe.

"No, it's not that kinda party just yet."

"Why not?" She whined. "You're so boring"

"I've only been dating him for like 2 weeks."

I decided to only tell Cali about me and Jacob. She's the only one I trust and I didn't want everyone in our business.

"I guess"

We talked a little longer about random stuff, then I realized it was late as hell.

"I need to get home, my mom probably thinks I'm dead" I laughed.

"Alright, text me"

"Okay"

I drove home, hoping Jacob was still up.

I missed him.

I pulled up to the house, parking and quietly opening the front door.

"Kaikamahine!(daughter!) where have you been?"

It was almost 1 am, and I told my mom I'd be home by 11.

"Mihi (sorry) mommy, me and Cali lost track of time. It won't happen again"

"Okayyyy" she said, giving me the look.

I smiled and ran up to my room, dialing Jacob's number.

"Hello?"

"Heyy"

"Wassup Nani. You just getting home?"

"Yeah, me and Cali had a long talk."

"Oh yeah? About what?"

"All kinds of stuff, school, Christmas, you."

"Me?"

"Mhm. I told her what happened with your dad."

He cleared his throat and I could tell it was still bothering him.

"I really am sorry for that. My dad...he's not the nicest person."

"Yeah.." I mumbled.

"You're not mad at me are you?"

"Why would I be? You did nothing wrong Jacob"

"I know. I just should've kicked his ass for talking about you like that"

"No. He's still your dad. That wouldn't be right"

"I guess"

There was an awkward silence, I put the phone on speaker and changed into my pajamas.

"What you doing?"

"Changing clothes"

"Oh..what you wearing?"

I laughed into the phone. "A shirt"

"That's it?"

"Yes, Jacob"

"Damn" I could tell he probably licked his lips.

"Jacob is sex all you think about?"

"Maybe"

"Not funny" I rolled my eyes and yawned.

"You sound sleepy. Ima talk to you Tommorow baby girl, get some rest"

"Alright. Goodnight Jay"

"Jay?" He laughed.

"Yeah, I like that"

"Okay, goodnight" he laughed and we hung up
