Omniscient POV
Jacob waited in his car for Nani. Today was Friday, and school was over so Thanksgiving Break was now in full effect.
School ended about 2 hours ago, but Jacob was here to pick up Nani from dance team tryouts.
He never knew that dance was a hobby of hers, it made her even more attractive to him.
He looked up and saw her walking to his car. She had on black spandex and a black tank top, with her audition number still pinned to her. Her hair was in a bun and she smiled lightly, getting into the car.
"Wassup Nani, how'd it go?" Jacob asked.
"I didn't make it" she looked down, frowning.
Jacob began to feel for her, and reached his arm over to rub her exposed shoulder. "Im sorry, baby. It's okay, we can go get some ice cream."
"JUST KIDDING I MADE THE TEAM!" She yelled, jumping up and down.
Her actions caught Jacob by surprise. "I hate you" he said jokingly. "Had me thinking this ride home was gone be awkward as fuck." He said as she playfully hit him.
"Im sorry, but you should've seen the look on your face" Nani said as Jacob pulled off and headed to Marble Slab.
They both got out the car and walking hand in hand.
"You know what you want?" Jacob asked, looking at the menu.
Nani bit her bottom lip, reading the options before responding. "Mhm"
"Hi, welcome to Marble Slab, what can I get you?" The worker asked.
"Can I have sweet cream with oreos on a cone."
"And I'll have chocolate with M&M's." Jacob said.
After paying and receiving their ice cream, they went to sit in a booth towards the back of the parlor.
"So, are you ready for thanksgiving?" Nani asked, licking away at her ice cream cone.
"Nah, Holidays have never been really big in my family." Jacob responded dryly.
Nani frowned, feeling confused. All her life, almost every holiday was celebrated with food, decorations, music, friends, and family. She was excited for Thanksgiving.
"Really? Why?"
"My dad..." He trailed off.
"Your dad what?"
"He's not a holiday type of person."
"Oh.."
Nani has the urged to ask about Jacob's mother, but she didn't know what would happen if she did.
"Jacob, can I ask you something?"
"Yeah?"
"Do you ever hear from your mother?"
He stared blankly at the spoon in his hand, licking the ice cream from it.
"Nah...not really."
Nani looked down.
"You wanna know why?"
She hesitantly nodded her head, causing Jacob to laugh lightly.
"Nani you don't have to be scared, you can ask me anything bae."
Hearing him say that sent a warm feeling through her body. She smiled and leaned over to peck his cheek.
"Well, growing up, my dad's parents were very strict. They were both successful lawyers, and wanted the same for him. They always wanted him to be with a white girl, because they felt black people could never live up to the success that they had created for themselves."
