It All Started Like This... (Eren X Mikasa)

Chapter 10: Mikasa's Backstory

Mikasa's Mom POV:

"Sure, I have nothing else to pass the time," said Eren.

"Alright then. Where do I start? Oh, I know! So Mikasa..." I started.

---Backstory (Narrator's POV)---

Mikasa was really shy back then. Or at least at school. She didn't have any friends and was always by herself at school. She wasn't very sociable either, only at home. At home she was such a great kid. Talked to her parents, always behaved well, was respectful, and helped out with the chores. She was an only child, and her other family like cousins and grandparents were all the way back in Japan. Having no siblings may have been partially the reason she had no friends at school.

When she was in her second year at middle school, she started becoming more friendly and sociable, thanks to Levi. He had been a new transfer student and was in almost all of Mikasa's classes. During his first day, he was seated next to Mikasa in the classroom and so it was only natural for him to ask her for help. Of course she was shy at first but after talking with him and helping out, she finally got less shy and became more talkative and outgoing. Everyone noticed the change and soon she had a lot of friends. Mikasa became more popular than usual. Mikasa was really gorgeous and beautiful before yet no one had noticed because she was shy and unnoticeable.

So when she became popular, everyone noticed how kawaii she looked and soon all the girls envied her and all the guys fell for her. This was when Levi noticed his feelings for Mikasa.

Towards the middle of the school year, he had the courage to ask Mikasa out. She, having had no experience with dating yet, decided to say yes. So they started dating and everyone congratulated them. Of course a few guys were pissed at him but that didn't stop them from dating. They had lots of great times but that soon changed.

It was during summer when Levi changed. For unknown reasons, he suddenly became more abusive and you can guess what started happening to Mikasa. She got scared and went into hiding. She tried every attempt to get away from him but Levi always managed to get to her. She went to her parents and even the police for help. Eventually Levi was held in custody at the prison for a while but was let out since there wasn't much to keep him in. This is where Jean comes in.

Jean, the stepbrother of Levi, pitied Mikasa and did his best to protect her. He kept shooing Levi away and leading Mikasa away from him. He even fought Levi to save her. Soon Mikasa fell in love with Jean and somehow, they started dating. Her parents became worried after what had happened with Levi and said she was repeating the same mistake. She didn't believe them and she soon regretted it.

Later, Jean too had gone corrupted. He became a peeping Tom and a stalker whenever they weren't together at school or on a date. He started coming to Mikasa's house and peeking in through her window with a camera taking pictures of her changing and other perverted stuff. When Mikasa wasn't at school or home, Jean followed her, looking with binoculars or with a camera.

Eventually Mikasa noticed this too. She told Jean to back off but he didn't noticed. I'm afraid she was going through déjà vu again. She went to her parents and the police again but there was no evidence of him actually stalking her so no one believed her except her parents.

After being tired with the abuse and stalking, Mikasa's parents decided it was time to move. But that was no good too. Jean convinced his family to move too and no matter where Mikasa moved, so did Jean. It wore down both of their parents and made them tired. Realizing this was going nowhere, the parents went to the police and an investigation on Jean started. The police, this time, found some bits of proof here and there from Jean but noting to big to place him in jail either. In the end, the problems with Jean and Levi could not be resolved.

This traumatized Mikasa so that any problems she had with a guy, whether it was just a small conflict or a big one, she would overreact and act differently than usual. That is why she kept chasing Eren to his house when he got the last copy of a book that Mikasa wanted. This was also the reason for her behavior at the beginning of this fanfic. She would go to any lengths to stop problems or conflicts between herself and guys.

Mikasa acts normal most of the time but the trauma sometimes gets triggered. But she has had control over it most of the time now since she started spending time with Eren.
She usually doesn't think about her trauma regardless of her actions which makes it so hard to recognize if she was acting normal or not.

She only asked him to be her pretend boyfriend being afraid of what may happen since the last two times.

She actually fell in love with him much like the last two times but this time, she fell in love with a guy who wasn't going to abuse her or stalk her but protect her and be pure to the heart...

---End of Backstory---

Eren's POV:

"Wow. I didn't know that," I said.

"Obviously you didn't! Mikasa usually doesn't talk to anyone about her trauma. And I suggest you don't ask or talk about it when you are around Mikasa," said Mikasa's Mom.

"Isn't that what every guy doesn't want to do to a girl when he hears about that?" I asked. Of course I wouldn't do that. I would just hurt Mikasa more if I did any of those things.

"Just wanted to be sure," she said. "Well, I have to get going now. My other patients need me."

"Alright, I'll just be waiting here for Mikasa..." I said as she walked off into the corridor. I just sighed and looked down. How much longer until I can see Mikasa? I lied back down on the bench and started at the ceiling.

I saw that Mikasa's Mom had started coming back over and she was looking down at me.

"Before I forget, don't do the same things that Levi and Jean did to Mikasa. I'll never forgive you if the same thing happened again," she said while glaring at me. I felt a chill go up my spine. She walked off into the corridor again and I didn't see her again for the day.

My stomach growled. I realized that I didn't have lunch yet...
