It All Started Like This... (Eren X Mikasa)

Chapter 12: The Answer?

Eren's POV:

"Will you go out with me? But for real this time?" I asked nervously. Mikasa was shocked and it was expected. I mean, I asked her out randomly but not entirely. I just gained a lot of feelings for her and I didn't want to be stuck as her pretend boyfriend.

"Wait... for real?" she asked.

"Of course for real! I don't want to just protect you and be friends. I want to be at your side and love you for real. I won't be like Jean or Levi. Because unlike them, I would never do anything to you. So please, what's your answer?"

"Uh... can I think about this? I don't want to give you a false answer," she replied. I sighed and said, "That's fine with me but please give me an answer soon."

"Thanks..." she said while her face turned red. I hugged her and started walking back home.

Mikasa's POV:

He asked it. He really asked. My heart kept beating faster and I started to feel hot all over. I kept blushing but no one noticed while I walked home.

This was sudden. But it makes me happy to know that he likes me... But what do I say? Won't it be repeating what happened in the past if I say yes? Will he become like Jean and Levi? I don't know what to do...

I was nearing my house when I saw Armin sitting on the doorstep.

"What are you doing here Armin?" I asked. "How do you even know where I live?"

"Eren told me as a favor. But anyway, I assume you need advice on something?"

"How did you know?"

"Just a really good hunch," he replied. I was confused but I let him in anyway.

"Please excuse the intrusion," he said politely.

"It's fine. I needed advice anyway." He put down his bag next to mine and took off his shoes. We both sat down on the couch.

"So tell me. What is the advice you need?" he inquired.

"Well, I don't know if I should include you in this or not..."

"Hey, it's okay. I'm Eren's best friend. I know everything about him since preschool. Just ask away," he said approvingly.

"Okay then..." I sighed. "Eren asked me out and I didn't give him an answer. I told him that I would think about it. I'm just not sure if it would be okay to say yes."

"Eren is a good guy. Why would it be wrong to date him?"

"But what if the same thing happens with Jean and-"

"Eren is NOT Jean or Levi," he declared while cutting me off. "He would not betray his friends or stalk them. He would not chase them down the hallways or try to kiss them randomly. He is not anything like Jean and Levi."

"But-" I was cut off again.

"It's okay to date Eren. If anything goes wrong, just ask me for help," he finished. "I'll see you at school." He got up from the couch and walked over to the door. He put on his shoes and picked up his backpack while he went out the door.

-Night-

Eren's POV:

I lied down on my bed and stared at the ceiling. I still can't believe that I managed to ask her out. Even my heart's still beating from earlier.

I wondered if it was right to ask her out. I realized that I didn't think about it a lot, I only acted on my feelings. What if she says no and we won't stay as friends? But then we would still be together if Jean and Levi start doing something again. But it's too late now.

Why didn't I think about this? I just put Mikasa into an awkward position. What's even worse is that I have to wait for an answer. I'm not even sure when I will get one.

Maybe I should just forget what I said and stay as Mikasa's pretend boyfriend... but... I still have that deep feeling inside of me. From the bottom of my heart, I still like Mikasa.

I sighed sadly. Maybe I should ask for more advice from Armin? I probably shouldn't...

My phone buzzed and I picked it up.

"Hello?"

"Hey Eren! It's Armin."

"What's up?" I asked. It was a little bit unusual for Armin to call me.

"I think I have something to solve your problems!"

"All right. What is it?" I was now very interested.

"Take Mikasa out... on a date!"

"What?" I just asked her out. How could I possibly ask to have a date with her?

"Don't worry! If you bring her to the mall or something to shop for something, it might increase your relationship with her and then maybe she'll say yes. This plan is foolproof. It gives Mikasa a chance to see what it might look like when you guys do start dating for real!"

"Are you sure about this Armin?"

"Yeah! I even heard that a new anime shop at the mall that is open and is selling Attack on Giant stuff!"

"Thanks Armin! Gotta go." I hung up on him and started dialing Mikasa's phone number. I was now more eager than anything to ask Mikasa on a date. Especially with the new shop open.

The line kept ringing for a long time but Mikasa picked it up.

"Hey Mikasa!"

"Hi Eren! Why did you call me?" she asked.

"Well I wanted to ask you..."

"Ask me what?"

"Did you want to go on a date with me?" I asked.

"Wait, what?"
