When I was ten years old I wore a red dress almost every day and had a best friend called Jenny. She had the longest, brownest hair ten-year-old me had ever seen. Jenny had polka dot shoes and sang almost constantly. People made fun of me for being weird and wearing the same thing every day, and people made fun of Jenny for her lisp and how she always skipped instead of walked. So we stuck together. We were inseparable. I told her all about my Dad leaving and she told me that I could borrow her Dad if I wanted. Our hands were always intertwined and so I began skipping everywhere too.
We had sleepovers on a regular basis, always staying up till midnight, giggling and whispering to each other. We knew each other's secrets and never told a soul.

Jenny made me smile. She made me laugh and skip and sing. She accepted me as I was.
Jenny was my first true friend. The first person who wasn't my Mum, that really truly cared about me.

We stayed friends for 2 and a half years until she left.
By then, I didn't wear my dress anymore and Jenny didn't have a lisp anymore. We were still as close as before and still inseparable. Until she left.

Her family packed up and left. Moved to a whole other country. She left and she didn't have a choice.

I stopped skipping and singing and every time I saw a pair of polka dot shoes I would want to cry. After Jenny left, I didn't have a best friend anymore.

a/n: again, adding some more backstory, and some dodie. cause everyone needs it.
