Harry took me back to the "Gryffindor Common room" to introduce me to everyone. He mostly took interest in introducing me to Ron and Hermione. They are his friends from the beginning of his magical journey here at Hogwarts and they've apparently been through a lot together.
"We don't usually have lessons on the first day but we apparently needed catching up to do from last year," complained Ron.
"Oh stop, Ron. I think it was a great idea!" Said Hermione, "and besides, you got a chance to take a look at our classes! Which one did you like most?"
"Uh," I thought to myself, "I kind of liked the one with that Snape guy"
"Professor Snape?" Asked Hermione
"Oh, that was potions," said Ron disappointed by my choice, "that's a bit boring, what did you like?"
"The teacher, I guess?" I replied.
They all looked at me like a I was crazy.
"Are you kidding me? He basically took you down the minute you walked in!" Argued Ron
"Yeah," I began, "but he clearly done it for a reason? He seems like he'd be a great teacher"
They all starred at me.
"He is a good teacher," said Hermione, "he's just... Strange."
"Strange?"
"Well-" she began before Harry interrupted
"It's nothing to get into now," then we all looked at him, I gave him a questioning look, "I don't want you to jump into all of this. Not now anyway."
You know what? I couldn't agree more. I want to be happy.
Seamus and Dean ran over once they saw me. "So you've figured out the story then?" They beamed at me
"No, actually," I replied
"What story?" asked Harry
"On the train, we tried to figure out where I was in your famous story, what had happened to me".
Then suddenly I remembered, "Malfoy!" I jumped off my seat.
"Malfoy?" they all shout in sync
"What do you know about Malfoy?!" Asked Ron
"Not much," I replied, "I said I'd meet him in the Slytherin common room. Does anyone know where that is?"
"Woah, wait," Harry said, "I know you don't know and I don't expect you to, but Slytherin is bad, Malfoy, is bad! You can't go there"
"Urm, I can go there and I will," I picked up my bag from the floor, "Dumbledore said that it will be my house until I get sorted out or something?"
"Dumbledore told you?" Asked Hermione
"Yeah? Why is that so bad?"
"Never mind," said Harry. I looked at him and he looked back. "I'll explain at dinner"
I left the common room leaving sad and worried faces behind me. But I had to leave. I didn't want to upset Malfoy. Not because he's really good looking but because he was already irritated by me being Harry's relative. I had a few questions in mind. I needed to know that my brother was a good person before I jumped into family bonding time. I didn't want to be disappointed.
I walked around and around for what felt like forever. There were no signs and nothing telling me where it was! I asked around and no one really knew where it was because they weren't part of Slytherin. They told me to find someone wearing a green snake on their robe. I searched and finally found a squad of Slytherins. They seemed intimidating so I didn't approach them. I just followed them.
They walked around causing so much trouble for about half an hour before they returned to the common room. They picked on people, pushed each other around, put spells on people, etc. It was actually quite frightening. Magic seems dangerous.
They reached an empty wall. I hid behind a tall column and listened. They looked around and whispered words to the wall. A tiny green wooden door expanded from the centre of the empty space. As it grew the stone around it cracked and crumbled little pieces. They walked in and the door shrank again sucking the stone back into place.
I approached the wall feeling nervous. Malfoy told me the password but I don't fully remember it. It was something about blood. "Real blood" I tried. Nothing happened. So I tried again, "red blood". Again, nothing. It was something about blood being clean. I tried again, "pure blood" I whispered. It worked! The door grew in the wall and the crumbly bits hit me in the head a few times. I rubbed my head and marvelled at the masterpiece which was created.
I opened the door after I was finished marvelling and was introduced to a huge room which looked like the size of a mansion with only four walls covered in mean looking paintings of the same guy, draped in green material and banners with the Slytherin emblem stitched into them. There was a huge fireplace and black leather sofa's. The place was 100% unwelcoming. It was cold. I spotted Draco sitting in front of the fireplace on one of the leather sofa's. I speedily walked over, jumped over the back of the sofa and into the seat where I nearly crushed his feet. He looked at me shocked and sat up, "calm down," he whispered
"Sorry," I whispered back
"are you always this hyper?" He said louder now
"Hmm, sometimes. It depends what mood I'm in" I replied
"So good news then?" he looked at his feet
"You sound disappointed" I said agitated. He rested into the arm of the sofa with one arm behind his head. I noticed he was wearing a grey jumper, long black trousers and a white shirt underneath the jumper. It looked good.
"You look different without your uniform," I stated. He looked at me insecurely, as if I was judging him. "In a good way," I reassured him. He sighed and watched the ceiling.
"What's wrong?" I demanded
"Nothing,"
"Seriously, Draco. You're pissing me off."
"Ok," he laughed.
I watched him, eyebrow raised.
"Are you stupid or something?" I said. He sat up shocked.
"What?" He snapped
"Are. You. Stupid." I repeated clearly
"No," he said through his teeth, "are you?"
"What?!" I also snapped
"Are. You!"
We started at each other as I realised our conflicting personalities. I broke the tension by scratching the back of my head saying "we'd make a pretty good married couple".
"What?" He laughed
"Yeah! Why not?" I laughed, too.
"Come on, man. Seriously, what's wrong?"
"Harry and I," he sighed as he broke, "despise each other. I hate him and he hates me. I hate anyone he knows. Especially that filthy mudblood and pesky Weasley,"
"Who?"
"Granger and Weasley?"
"You lost me at mudblood, mate,"
"Hermione and Ron?"
"Oh right. Hey, come on, they're cool,"
"Yeah, for a half blood and moron who might as well be one!"
"What's a half blood?" I asked.
"A half blood is someone who doesn't come from wizarding families, like me. Granger's parents aren't wizards, they're just muggles."
"What's a muggle?" I asked feeling dumb
"A muggle," he sighed, "is someone without magical abilities, unlike you and I"
"Ok, so a human?"
"We're human, too" he explained.
"So what's a mudblood?"
"It's just a way of insulting the half bloods."
"Is it a bad word? Like fuck or cunt?"
His eyes shot open at the atrocious words, "yeah, pretty much"
"So if we're all human then why discriminate?"
"I don't know, just because."
"That's not an excuse," I replied angrily, "why do you feel the need to make everyone hate you? Or why do you need to make everything so shit? You're so moody- all the time!"
"Am not!" He defended himself
"You are! People dislike you, Draco, because you're always picking on people! Why? Why do you need to hurt people?! Why must you be so cruel?!" I yelled back at him. There was a short silence as he watched me.
"Well it's clear who's side you're on." He replied.
"Yeah. It is," I got up. He got up, too. I began to walk up the stairs towards the door. I don't know how I never saw this in him from the very beginning.
"I should've expected this from a Potter!" He said sourly
I spun round like a flash and nearly punched him in the face but had to restrain myself by just clenching my teeth and fists.
"You're so lucky I'm having a good day or I would've ripped open your mouth like the joker" I cruelly spat out
He starred me in the eyes, his pale grey began to turn green which was weird. His eyes began to water. I'm not sure if it was because he was sad, scared, or just hadn't blinked in a while. I like the second one best. I turned to walk out the door. As I opened it half way I turned my head and said, "I actually kind of liked you, Draco." I left and shut the door behind me.
As I walked away I could hear the door crumbling away in to the wall.
I felt so much anger against Draco. I couldn't believe someone could be so cynical. It's as if there was nothing good about him. In fact the whole room just felt dark, and not in a tonal kind of way. It was terrible in there.
