I walked around the castle looking for the Slytherin Common room. I was still getting used to the school so it was pretty easy for me to get lost. Half way through my hunt for the Slytherin House I thought about what Neville had said. He's either still at Slytherin, or preparing for his first class. I should go to the class first (considering I know where that is) and if he's not there, then I'll go find the common room. Simple!
Not so simple!
I got lost.
I ended up where divination is, damn it. I decided to turn to the walls for help. I found a painting of a tiny knight who seemed to have let his horse go mistakenly, so he was now chasing it around the landscape trying to catch it. The painting was wonderful. Nice natural colour's and the artist used a stipple effect. So the knight didn't have much of a face, it was more of a blur.
"Excuse me, sir?" I began
"The name's Benjamin!" He called out breathlessly, "Sir Benjamin of Gryffindor House!"
"Well, Sir Benjamin, I'm pretty lost, could you take me to Professor Snape's potions class by any chance?"
"A little bit busy!" He ran around.
"But I'm a Gryffindor! Surely you'd want to help me," I tried to convince him. He ignored me and continued to chase his horse.
"Well you can't be much of a knight if you can't even help a student to their classroom!" I retaliated frustratedly.
The knight came to a strong halt. He turned to face me on the heels of his feet and marched towards me. He got bigger and bigger as he got closer and closer and his face became clearer. "I, am a very brave knight! I was knighted by Godrick Gryffindor himself! And who might you be? I've scoured the Gryffindor Common Room many times and I have never seen you there. Imposter! You dare lie to me! To a Knight of Gryffindor! The bravest of Knights! Who are you? Tell me your name at once!" He yelled. By this point his face turned about as red as a tomato. I had no idea what to do or what to say back. So I retaliated in the only way I knew how. I punched it.No I'm kidding. I replied, "Maria, Maria Potter. And you can't have been much of a good scout because I've been here for a whole month now and this is the first time I've seen you and your pesky horse. So why don't you pipe yourself down, hotshot, and tell me where that damn potions room is!" But punching the painting would've been a more enjoyable approach.
The knight was taken back. He said, "Maria Potter? As in, Harry Potter's, Maria Potter?"
"I'm not Harry's Maria! I'm my own! But yes... I'm that Maria Potter..." I rolled my eyes.
"Well why didn't you say so!" He said happily sticking his hand out to shake mine. His hand looked like it was made of matter, it completely came out of the painting. You could still make out every brushstroke on his hands and the arm of his armour. I shook it, feeling the tough roughness of the dry paint.
"Well come on then! Follow me! I've heard so much about you! You wonderful witch, you!" He babbled,
"I mean, wow! If it wasn't for you and your brother! I mean- who knows where we'd all be!" He jumped from painting to painting with his horse following behind him, who seemed to have given up on teasing Sir Benjamin.
"What do you mean me and Harry? I thought it was just Harry?" I asked confused
"Oh don't be silly! You have a scar too, do you not?"
"Uh, I have... But it's on my back, Harry's is on his-"
"Head! Yes! Well, no one knows how it truly happened and who knows how you got yours! But, there you have it... You're here now, and-"
"That's all that matters?" I said first
"Yes," he said looking straight, "that's all that matters now"Silence filled in the space. That's all that matters, I thought to myself. All that matters? That's all anyone said to me! How can that be all that matters? I don't know why that angered me so much, but it did. No one seemed the slightest bit interested in what had happened to me. I'm pissed off, because no one had thought, "hmm, where's Maria gone? Let's try find her!" No one had the bright idea to come looking for me. Because they had Harry.
