'Do you want me to teach you how to catch the arrows?' Pan asked me casually, straightening up from leaning against the tree and stalking towards me.

'Sure,' I smiled and nodded in return, trying hard to contain my excitement. Pan had noticed how much I admired his skills and the overwhelming ability he had to stop arrows from hitting him by catching them with his hands. It was a talent that I knew was very difficult, yet Pan had faith I could do it.

'Stand over there,' He instructed me as he gestured to the spot in front of the tree and I stood before the tree, unsure whether I was more nervous or excited.

Pan came forward and my breathing stilled as he stood so close to me, his proximity reminding me  of the time we used to share. The way he watched me. The way he kissed me. It was like every night was magic. His tongue slid out between his teeth and it took all our will power not to kiss one another. And then his lips dropped to my ear as he whispered against my skin. 'Close your eyes...'

'Why?' I asked, but obediently closed eyelids. He gently kissed my cheek, his lips lingering against my skin and tickling it before retreating.

I heard his footsteps moving slowly away, the leaves crunching beneath his feet. Then, about six metres away, he spoke up, 'I'm going to shoot some arrows close to you, but I promise I won't hit you.'

'What!' I spluttered. My eyes shot open wide, staring at him with shock. My heart hammered inside of my chest, my body becoming sweaty. Nervously, I watched him, fearing for my own mortality more and more each second.

'What's wrong, Tig? Don't you trust me?' Pan asked, inserting an arrow and lifting his bow higher so that it rested just by his shoulder. He closed one eye, adjusting the focus.

'You haven't exactly giving me a reason to trust you...' I reminded him with frustration.

'If you don't trust me, then trust your own magic. I know you can stop the arrow.' He said with a mischievous glint in his eye. I knew what he was doing. He was trying to manipulate me into trusting him... And unfortunately it was working.

'How do I do that?' I asked carefully, trying to keep my breathing level as I closed my eyes again.

'Close your eyes, listen to the arrow, concentrate on the arrow and the magic. Then let your hand fly to it and catch it in the air.' Pan told me simply, 'Trust yourself, me and the magic. I'll shoot this one so it can't hit you, but try to stop it anyway.'

'Ok.' I agreed.

'This one's to your left,' Pan said and suddenly I heard the bow snap. The arrow flew through the air, slicing the air apart menacingly. My fingers twitched and my eyelashes quivered, concentration flooding through my body. I breathed in quickly, and my hands snapped to the left.

My eyes peeled open and I gasped at what I saw: my hands had caught the arrow!

I staggered with the weight of energy, wobbling a little because Pan's arrows were always shot with a lot of force. I turned my head upwards, my eyes meeting Pan's with excitement. His jaw dropped with astonishment and excitement, grinning at me with delight. 'Wow, Tiger Lily! You did it!'

He dropped the bow and quiver of arrows to the floor. He rushed forwards and grabbed me around the waist, pulling me upwards and spinning me around. I giggled with delight and glee, my heart rate drumming in my ears. I suddenly felt far more alive and alert.
