"This is incrediable!" Anna looked at her full mailbox and leaned back into her office chair. It has been a week since the article about him was published and since from the very first time working in NYT, Anna felt bad about her work. She hadn't done her work like she wanted to and like it had been written by someone else. On the day of the interview, she had the opportunity to ask him only few questions and he sent the answers of the other ones on her mail. She felt impressed that he had stayed up almost all night to do this, and she noticed his mail when she checked her mailbox after arriving at work.
From the corner of her eye, Anna saw Mr.Clark walking toward her. She turned, closing her laptop and taking off her earphones. "Good morning, Anna! Great job at Mr.Hawk's interview." He said with a loud voice, as he intended everybody around them to listen to him.
"Thank you!" She replied, her breath under constant heavy load.
"Can you come to my office for a minute?" he asked, not saying anything else, what was that about. So they walked pass Laura, who now was sitting beside her future husband.
Mike was holding his arm around her and she was typing on her computer. They both turned, when Anna and Mr. Clark strolled pass them and Laura had a questioning face blastered on. Mike stood up when the door of Clark's office closed behind their backs.
"Please, sit down!" his voice commanding as he walked around his table and cleared his table from all the paperstacks. Anna pulled a chair out and sat down, nervous.
"Anna, I'm really happy that your interview with him was a success. I'm not even going to ask, why he chose you to interview him but can I ask, if there is something you have to tell me?" he asked. Did he somehow found out that she hadn't pulled throw the whole interview and that he mailed her most of them? There was nothing wrong about it, but somehow she felt quilty.
Anna shook her head, but inside she wanted to confess all of it.
"He called me and gave a review of your work!" he said, but at that moment she flinched. Had she written something that she wasn't supposed to? Anna swallowed hard before asking with a tremble in her voice:
"And?"
"He said, that you made an amazing job and he wants to reward you!"
"Reward me?" Anastasia asked.
"Yes, he told me to tell you that he will call you and let you know what he had in mind. I asked him what it was but he avoided my question and hung up!" Clark said.
"Ok!" she said with confusion in her voice. She walked back to her cubicle and sat down. Pluging in her earphones and opening her laptop, her mind drifted into what Clark had said to her. Was it just another excuse for him to see her again?
Laura's wedding was in three weeks and as the maid of honor they had to plan the whole thing only in two months. It seemed to be a challenge from another world and if it wasn't enough, the small wedding Laura and Mike had planned turned into a huge one. With invitations to 150 people, a venue triple the size and a reception with a blues band, every thing turned upside down. Laura had ordered the most gorgeous dress- cream colored strapless knee high dress with pearls hand stitched to the fabric. Bridemaids dresses were baby pink colored, with one strap over the right shoulder and almost the same lenght that the bride's dress. The fabric was satin and hugged her body from all the right places.
In the evening when they drove home from work, Anastasia couldn't wait for him to call already. That thought had tortured her whole day and she eagerly wanted to know what he meant by a reward. After dinner and planning a girls night out before the wedding, Anastasia went to her bedroom. She closed the door and undressed. She slipped out from her jeans and tank top, let her ponytail loose and took away her contactlenses. She took her laptop from her bag and set it on the bed. After taking a shower and putting on a silk nightshirt, Anastasia pieled away bedcovers and settled in. A lamp on the bedside table illuminated with a soft yellow light what created a romantic lighting in her bedroom.
She searched Google for a bar, where they could go have fun before Laura is finally owned by Mike. First the idea was to go in a strip club where men performed, but after Laura discarded it, Anna needed to find something else where they could celebrate. So she scrolled down until she found a club called Extreme, where they could order a bridsmaids package. This included a dinner, drinks and a spa day from a sponsor. That didn't cost very much so first thing tomarrow morning she would call in the club and set a time for the party.
It was aready few minutes after twelve, when she turned the light off and pulled a blanket over her. Her thoughts went back to Shaun and how they broke up. Anna hadn't felt this much pain for so long but on the night when she moved out, it was hard for her to gather herself up. And something about seeing Shaun in the bar few weeks ago brought all this feelings back on the surface. If James hadn't been there to 'save' her, things would have ended the other way around.
Shaun was dating already and rubbed it under her nose. She didn't really care anymore and she had cried herself empty, but it still hurt her.
James was an actor, a chick magnet, an eyecandy but he was also arrogant, cocky and thought to much of himself. His ego somehow controlled his life but being kissed by him, infront of Shaun, made her tremble and her inside scream.
On that moment, Anna's phone started buzzing on the dresser. Looking at the caller id, it was James. Before answering, she checked at the time and it was after midnight. She cleared her throut and pushed 'answer'.
"Hello!" she said with a sleepy voice.
"Oh, sorry, you were already asleep." James said aquartley and his voice drifted away.
"No, its fine. What is it?" she asked, whiping the sleep from her eyes and moving herself up in the bed.
"I'm so sorry. I wanted to call you hours ago, but I forgot and since I promised, then I hoped that you were still up!" he said with a husky voice.
"By the way, look outside!" he said.
"Why?" she asked, folding the covers over and walking toward the window. When she pulled a curtain away, she saw James standing on the street, holding his phone to his ear and a bottle of wine. He leaned against his car, dressed in just a open colared white shirt and suit pants.
"What's that for?" she asked, still standing by the window, looking at him.
She looked as his eyes were fixed at her window.
"This is your reward! Are you going to ask me up?" he asked, holding up the bottle and smiling as he talked to her.
"Hehe, this is my reward?" she asked, wicked smile covering her lips, almost laughting at the thought.
"Yes. Please open the door. It's cold outside, baby!" He said grinning back at her, hugging himself.
She turned around and pulled the curtain back. It was late and she had to go to work on the morning, but looking him down on the street, holding a wine in his hand, freezing, she couldn't let him freeze to death. It had been 10 days, since she last saw him and Laura was soundly asleep, so what the heck.
"I'll be right down!" she said, before taking her bathrobe and heading down.
