Chapter Five: Home

I was in the bathroom smoking up a storm when Mikey nearly knocked down the door. “No more weed, Gerard!” he yelled and took it from me. “Besides, we are in a hospital. That is just plain stupidity.” He continued and walked out of the bathroom. If you are wondering where I got weed from, a dealer at school. I paid him sixty dollars in cash just so he could bring it down here for me. I was desperate, but oh well. After about ten painful minutes, I exited the bathroom and laid down. Lyn-Z soon woke up, then Ray, Frank, Mikey was in the cafeteria. They all left after about an hour because they didn’t want to be late for school. I was alone most of the day, so I tried to get my mother to sign me out of the hospital. Ma’ and I waited in the room until a doctor came in with a clip board. “You need to be put on medication, son.” Said the male doctor. “Why?” asked my ma’. “Because he has some characteristics of depression, ADHD, and high levels of anxiety. I would also like him to see a councilor because when we took a urine sample and blood test, he didn’t pass.” “What do you mean I didn’t pass? Pass what?” I asked confused. “It was to see if you had any drugs or alcohol in your system. You did so you need some help.” He explained. I fell into my bed and ma’ stared at me with disappointment. “Can we go home though?” asked ma’. “I suppose.” So I got my clothes on and when I came out of the bathroom the medication I needed to take was sitting on my jacket. I put my jacket on and placed the meds in my right pocket. I tied my shoes and took my mothers hand. We walked out of the hospital and I drove her home. It was 2:34pm so school would be getting out soon. “Ma’, I…” “Gerard, I don’t want to talk about it.” She said and went upstairs and took a nap. I felt awful but that is life. I am graduating this year so I had every right to do drugs, smoke, and drink. I am eighteen. Besides there is only a week left of school. I kept my shoes and jacket on and went down into the basement where my room was. I locked the door and shut the blinds. I took a chest out from underneath my bed and unlocked it. I snorted an eyeball full of coke and smoke a pack of cigarettes. I drank quite a lot, and when I finished my third beer someone knocked on my door. I opened it up with bloodshot eyes. “What?” I said with my eyes half shut. “Gerard, mom is seriously worried about you. We all are, please get help.” Mikey said. “I’d rather not.” I said as I looked up the stairs only to see the gang standing above. I pushed Mikey out of the way and ran into the bathroom. I puked up beer and whatever else for forty five minutes when Lyn-Z opened the bathroom door. I was laying in the bathtub shivering violently. Lyn-Z closed the door, locked it, then sat in the bathtub with me. She held me close to her chest. I could hear her heart beating smoothly. I hugged her and began to cry. “It’s okay, Gerard. Everyone does stupid stuff.” She said messing with my black hair. “I don’t know why I am so broken, Lyn-Z.” I said standing up and getting out of the bathroom. She followed me into my bedroom and I hid under my blankets and cried even harder. She sat next to me and Frank came down. “Gerard, are you okay?” he asked leaning against the doorframe. “I’m fine, Frank.” I said rolling over to the far side of the bed. Lyn-Z and Frank walked out together and I over heard Lyn-Z say, “I think he just needs to be alone for a while.”
