Chapter Eight: Trouble Maker
I woke up in the street and went back into Ray’s house. Everyone was asleep except for Lyn-Z. As soon as she saw me, she ran over and gave me a hug. We weren’t together or anything because I knew she didn’t like me like that. “What the hell?” she said. “Sorry, I guess I got a little too crazy last night.” I said lying on the floor. She just walked away and went back into her corner to sleep. Frank rolled over and gave me a hug. “Don’t get too crazy again.” He said and went back to cuddling Jamia on the floor. When we got home, Mikey went into the bathroom to take a shower and clean up form last night. I went into my bedroom to drink some coffee. Ma’ opened the door and some guys in all white came swarming in. I backed up toward the window and said, “What the hell, Ma’?” “Gerard, you have been having too much fun that has been hurting the ones around you. It’s time to stop your addictions.” She said and the guys moved closer with a straight jacket just in case. I jumped out of my window with my waterproof backpack and ran as fast as I could to the park I always go to. I then decided to walk quickly to the bridge built above Cedar River. I sat on the ledge of the bridge and smoked a few. I heard sirens after about five minutes and as I saw my friends chasing after me with the cops, I froze. “Gerard! Don’t jump!” yelled Frank. I dropped the cigarette and jumped off the bridge. I could hear Lyn-Z’s and Ma’s voices screaming, “NO!” I swam to shore and ran up a steep hill to Main Street. I ran across the busy street nearly getting smashed into five cars. I sprinted down a smaller hill and down a dirt road into the woods. I stopped and leaned against a tree to catch my breath. I heard the crunching of Autumn leaves and whispers of police sirens in the distance. I lit a match that was in a plastic bag and threw it on a pile of leaves hoping it would delay the chase. I looked around and saw red and blue flashing lights coming down the road so I lit another match causing a bigger fire. I turned to run but my mother and friends were standing there. We all just stared at each other when the sirens finally caught up to me. I took the pistol that I got from my room and fired it at the cops. The officers go out of their cars with pistols in hand ready to fire. “Don’t shoot!” yelled Ma’. Just as I heard the trigger being pulled I hit the ground with my left hand on my bloody stomach. Multiple guns went off after that and I was now the source of a salty flowing river. The last thing I heard was a guy saying, “You are and always will be nothing but a trouble maker.”
